What a day!
Head coach and founder of Bloodline Gym brought the Bloodline family down to the MTMA Interclub today, which was coincidentally hosted in the community centre where he himself used to train when he was young! Fast forward a few years, and although the building was still as cold and functional as he remembered, the energy of the place, with pictures of Jet Li co stars Colin Price and Mike Tyson’s visit to the location captured on the wall, was still palpable!
And the team, with some outstanding performances and world class support, left their own energy behind. Eight fighters went in and eight proud and successful fighters came out with their heads held high and the respect of their opponents deservedly earned.
Up first were the Bloodline boys led by Casper - son of Piotr also fighting - who battled solidly on only his third interclub, against a sprightly opponent - the two combatants didn't stop for the whole three rounds! With a determination that is obviously printed on the Jakubowicz DNA, we look forward to seeing how the young man progresses. Brilliant performance!
Next up was Killer Kai who between machine gun punches and flying high kicks (!) made Coach a very happy father indeed - the pride was all over his face - well done Kai!
The final boy up was Aaron the Assassinator, who followed Kai, his partner in punches, with solid body shots and a mistimed teep to the face that had IKF Southern Area champion Dani Blair fresh from her win the day before, cheering in admiration at her infamous attack. Nice one Aaron!
The boys did good!
Next up were a selection of the Queens of Bloodline, who blessed the ring with their regal ways.
First up was amazing Agnieszka who on just her second inter club, showed a poise and determination which overwhelmed her game opponent with punches to the face that made her appreciate the headboard she had decided to wear for the bout. Brilliant match, Agnieszka!
Super fit Isabella, who was up against a taller and heavier opponent with Elasticgirl long legs, followed and boy did she keep the standard high! Unfortunately for her opponent, Coach read her game perfectly and delivered succinct instructions which allowed green-fingered Isabella to nullify her opponent’s natural advantages and dazzle her with punches to the face and accurate kicks to the body. The final round had the whole place cheering away for both ladies with Isabella a clear victor in a tough bout. Well done, Issy!
Then the young, and slightly older (!), kings closed out the Bloodline entries with King Kaz’s younger brother, Emmanuel first up showing once again that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. With a strong performance against an experienced opponent, Emmanuel showed poise and patience, weathering some strong body shots before delivering his own fire - and the trademark Kazadi Knees - to leave his opponent putting some respect on the Kazadi/Bloodline name. We look forward to seeing more from the young charge!
Polish Piotr entered the square next against an experienced opponent who wasn't phased by the roof raising cheers Piotr came in to the ring hearing. Piotr took some hard shots in the opening round and a well timed knee, but his indomitable spirit rose to the occasion once again and saw him finish the fight to rapturous applause having left his opponent bloodied and bruised! Class of ’77 honorary member strikes again!
And last but by no means least was Mr Małszycki aka Mr Uppercut aka Tomek. Dealing with varying scales, an upset stomach and changing opponents would have unsettled most but not Tomek who stood in front of a tough little competitor who came to fight. He didn't bank on running into a tsunami though lol.
For three whole rounds, the two traded blows back and forth, with Tomek landing more attacks, several of which brought harmonious ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ from the appreciative and a wry smiles from the knowledgeable referee. Another bloodied nose and another great bout to bring the Bloodline contribution to the interclub and a great weekend to a close. Great fight Tomek!
Once again a few members of the Bloodline band of family and friends showed what makes this such a great gym to be a part of. Big up all that cornered, took pictures, bought food, cheered, warmed up, travelled or sent supportive thoughts.
And thank you to Paul for connecting us as at Bloodline!
