Stowtellers

Stowtellers A monthly storytelling club, running on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. A club for traditional stories. Come to listen or to share a story or both.

In the traditional story of 'stone soup' a group of hungry townspeople gather around a pot of bubbling water, into which an old soldier has put a magical stone to make soup. Eager to make the magic work the people add a vegetable here, a sprig of herbs there and even some pieces of meat. Soon there is a pot full of good-smelling soup, with plenty to go round. Come and join us for a feast of tradit

ional story, legends, myths, fairytales, tall tales and fireside tales. The club will run on the 2nd Monday of every month, from 7.30 to 9.30. With a 10 minute story round for the first half and the possibility of longer times and try out times for those wanting to explore a story in the second half there’s plenty to chew. All welcome – let’s see what delicious morsels we can pull out of our pot together!

Happy New Year from Stowtellers ✨

We are meeting on TUESDAY JANUARY 10th in the Welcome Centre, St Mary's Church, E17 9RJ. at 7.30 pm - 9.30pm. We try to open at about 7.15pm.

Well done to those who braved the exceptionally cold weather to come in December. We were rewarded by a fine collection of stories, including a remarkable one from someone new to storytelling. This person reminded us all of the value of telling a story from the heart and listening to such a story. If you have a story inside you, which you want to tell, do try it out. An audience of storytellers is the most sympathetic audience you can find, because they have all been there. Give it a go. Ask us first if you want some reassurance.

Stowtellers begins 2023 confidently, having restarted face to face in September.

Come and join us to share a story, a ballad, a tale or a song

Admissions recommended £7/6 concessions. Further concessions as requested.

Hot drinks and refreshments available

STOWTELLERS - TUESDAY DECEMBER 13th 7.30pm - A Winter Gathering - Our next meeting on the second Tuesday of the month is Tuesday December 13th. We hope to have an extra-large turnout to celebrate the season and the successful restarting of Stowtellers. For this occasion, we thought we would break our usual 'no reading' rule of storytelling. We invite you to think of something to entertain the gathering, whether it be a story, poem, ballad, anecdote, joke, personal recollection (perhaps of Christmases past). If you need to read whatever it is, that will be allowed. We also invite any musical entertainment. As always, there is no obligation to tell a story or whatever. If you have any other ideas to add to the mix, please let us know. One thing we thought we could do is to read "The night before Christmas" round the room, taking a verse each.

Please try to bring along a guest. We'll take two pounds off the entrance price if they have never been to Stowtellers before.

Doors open 7.15 for 7.30. Stowtellers is at The Welcome Centre, St Mary’s Church, London E17 9RJ. Admission £7/6 concessions. Let us know if you’d like to come but the price is too high for you.
We will have rime for tea, coffee and a few snack.

Any questions DM us here or email Mike & Jumana at: [email protected]

Warmest Regards

Jumana and Mike

We will meet again next month on TUESDAY 8th NOVEMBER

We begin at 7.30pm, doors open at 7.15pm. The address is The Welcome Centre, St Mary's Church, London E17 9RJ. Come to the side of the building and walk down the corridor. We are in the lounge on the right.

We will have stories from the floor as last time, but there will also be a longer story from Mike. The story is about three Yahgans, indigenous inhabitants of Tierra Del Fuego, who were brought to Walthamstow in 1830 and educated in the Welcome Centre. It is a piece of our history, involving colonialism, imperialism and missionary zeal. Why the Indians were brought there and the consequences is a fascinating and gripping story, which sheds light on issues of racism and exploitation.

If you would like to tell a story (and there is no obligation to do so) please contact [email protected] to reserve a place.

Admission is £7, with £6 for concessions. In these difficult times, do speak/email to either of us if you want to come, but the price is too high for you. We will have time for tea, coffee and a few snacks
