We said we'd keep our eyes on it. Here's what two weeks does to a transfer window 👀
The top 10 most expensive moves of the summer just got a serious upgrade - and the numbers tell a story worth stopping for.
The two new entries alone added nearly €100M to the list's total value. Two weeks ago the top 10 collectively stood at around €883M. Today? €974M. We're closing in on a billion euros. In the top 10 alone.
Here's what moved:
3️⃣ Yan Diomande enters at #3 - €125M to Real Madrid. A 19-year-old right winger, valued at €90M, sold for €125M. Real Madrid spent over half of their entire summer budget on a teenager. That's a statement of intent - and one of the biggest bets on youth this decade.
6️⃣ Bruno Guimarães enters at #6 - €87.5M to Arsenal. The Brazilian who became the heartbeat of Newcastle's top-four ambitions, gone to the club he helped keep out of that top four. Arsenal were nowhere on this list two weeks ago. Now they're in it. At £143M in total summer spend, the Gunners are making serious noise.
The consequence of both arrivals? Defenders are almost gone from the top 10. Three weeks ago the list had three centre-backs in it (Jacquet, Lacroix, van Hecke). Today, just one. The market has spoken - midfield and wide creativity is where the money is going.
And Newcastle? Worth pausing on. They've sold three players from this top 10 in the same summer - Anderson (€135M), Gordon (€80M), Guimarães (€87.5M). That's over €300M out the door. A complete dismantling of their best assets, by choice or not.
The window is still open. The list is still moving.
