Middlesex Badminton Dome UK

Middlesex Badminton Dome UK It now has 6 courts and is rated as one of the best in the UK.

Any members out there got a copy of tonight's AGM Agenda? I can't remember seeing one so it could all be a shambles again!

Last summer the Dome's elected committee of volunteers organised - as per the rules of the Dome's published Constitution - its Annual General Meeting - to which every paid-up, active Dome Member was invited. At that meeting the members made it known that they would like more involvement and more transparency about how decisions for running the Dome were made. That request was made very forcefully and the Committee agreed to develop ways to make that happen.
Within a few weeks of that meeting Middlesex County Badminton Association sacked the whole Committee - no reason given to the Members - and themselves took over the management of the Dome.
MCBA are about to hold what they are calling the 2026 AGM. How many of you members have been invited to this? How many have been notified? From the information I have the number is about 30 - out of a possible 500 members.
Are you happy with this increased "transparency"? Please let me know how you feel?

Annual Membership fee is now £30.95! I've just paid mine - not that I'm interested in any of the membership "benefits" (see below for full, exciting list) other than the final one - "Ability to participate in the management of the Dome - join the Committee and vote at Meetings (T&C's apply)"
- but as the current staff "don't have time" to send information emails to ALL members (as specified in the Dome Constitution) - don't count on being kept in the loop unless you are one of the relatively small number of players who block book courts for clubs.
Here's the full, exciting list - quite a lot of these benefits do not only apply to paid-up members - hash-tag shows which are not special to members.

Benefits of becoming a member:
* No visitor's fee & Faster entry
* No time wasted taking down or setting up compared to other venues ( applies to everybody - not just Members)
* Ability to book courts online 9 days in advance
* Block booking - most venues do not offer block booking and it gives you the ability to start your own club/group and secure court for 3 months at a time
* a pay and play session - Feel Good Fridays 10am-12pm (£7) - NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED
* Join a coaching session
* Online profile and entry bar-code
* Social and league clubs that may be looking for players
(please note, clubs are organised independently from the Dome
and have their own price structure that covers court fees and usually shuttles too)
* Off peak rate #£13.65 per court per hour and at peak rate #£17.25 per court hour (£10 off peak only, if you become a club/group organiser and place a regular booking),
* our lounge area to spectate, come and watch tournaments, socialise and make friend, enjoy tea and coffee!
* Ability to participate in the management of the Dome - join the Committee and vote at Meetings (T&C's apply)

That proviso of "T&C's apply" as in - vote at Meetings (T&C's apply)" - has been added by the current, "temporary committee" which is operating the Dome under no visible Constitution or rules - so Carte Blanche to change everything - including the Dome's whole reason for existing - "to provide excellent badminton facilities for the LOCAL COMMUNITY as well as top-class players". How much longer can we allow this degradation of principle to continue?
Anybody?

Rumour (MCBA) has it that AGM Minutes and a copy of the (previously unseen) MCBA Constitution that now apparently governs the Dome were sent out to all members on 18th April 2026. I've been a member of the Dome since the mid 1980's - but I did not receive a copy. I should be interested to hear from anybody who did? XX

There was a meeting at the Dome last night to discuss its future. 90% of Dome members were excluded from attending - in total contravention of the Constitution that has governed this place for the past 40 years and which insisted each and every one of them should have a part in the discussions and decision-making. Does anybody else care?

I’ve been informed that the current Management at the Dome is unable to send emails to ALL individual members – only sending to those who are members of Dome clubs – so some of you may have missed this important update from them. I’ve attached the full 4 pages for you to read. I’ve also copied the most urgent/relevant info here:
Membership Fees: Adults: £21 per year (≈40p/week). Children (under 16): £1 per year (≈2p/week) (Subject to change on 1 Jan 2026 — £31 for adults, children TBC)
If your membership has expired, you’ll automatically be classed as a visitor until you renew which means you’ll need to pay the visitor fee each time you play (£4.00, increasing to £7.00 from 1 Jan 2026).
I’m thinking this could cause a bit of a back-log at Reception for our next session while everybody has their membership checked and discusses the changes – so maybe email [email protected] in advance to clarify? Also, any changes to membership/court fees can only be made after they have been discussed and ratified at a Dome AGM. As the next AGM is only rumoured to be happening in February, it's hard to see how changes could be made as soon as January. . .
