Old Whitgiftians Cricket Club

Old Whitgiftians Cricket Club Local Cricket Club in Croydon. All are welcome to join our friendly teams! Founded in 1878, the Old Whitgiftian Cricket Club is part of the Whitgift Sports Club.

Until 1970, all members of the Cricket Club were former pupils of Whitgift School. However, in recent years the Club has been open to cricketers of all abilities. Senior Cricket takes place at the Clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday afternoons between mid-April and mid-September. The Old Whitgiftian Cricket Club 1st XI plays in Surrey Championship Division 1. There are 3 other Saturday XIs and 1/2 Su

nday XIs. Spectators are very welcome. Fixtures, results and statistics for all OWCC teams, together with team sheets and news items, can be found at www.owcc.org. To play cricket for the OWCC, you will need to become a member of the Whitgift Sports Club. You will also then be able to take advantage of the many member benefits available, including discounted bar prices and discounted rates for hiring the facilities. Colts Cricket

Approximately 200 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16 play cricket throughout the week during the season. Parents are encouraged to support the various teams which play competitive matches and also to use the clubhouse facilities. Dear members and friends,

Firstly, we hope that you and your families are well and have managed to stave off COVID-19. We would normally be preparing to start a new cricket season at this very time with plenty of enthusiasm, training and preseason matches ahead of our league fixtures. Instead, we are gripped by this pandemic and currently unable to play the game we love.

Although we are unable to get out and play, the club still has costs that we need to meet, mainly to ensure that our facilities are maintained and ready for when we hopefully return. As with all clubs, membership is the most important source of cash flow at this time of year. While we have not sought membership fees at this stage, we would like to ask whether our members would be happy to make a donation to the cricket club via our GoFundMe page in the meantime.

We would like to target a sum of £7500 to be raised (based on the amount of income we will have lost so far). We know that these are difficult times for everyone for various reasons and this contribution is entirely voluntary. Donations of any size will be gladly received. These contributions will be very important in helping us to guarantee the future of the cricket club.

Hopefully, we will be able to hear the sound of leather on willow and socialise in the clubhouse soon! Stay safe and please continue to follow government health advice.

Hey guys. I'm now organising our new cricket tour to Sri Lanka next year.
Following OWCC’s successful tour to Barbados in 2017. We will now be travelling to Sri Lanka in March 2019 for our next tour.
The tour will be for 9 nights / 10 days. Will include hotel, flights, transfers to all matches and back, bed and breakfast. Plus four cricket matches. There will also be trips to the elephant sanctuaries and tea farms.
Cost for the trip will be roughly £1350 each. A deposit of £250 will be required by June and the remainder of payment will be needed by December later this year which gives everyone plenty of time to save up.
We will be using a company called Gullivers Travels. Peter (our agent) will be coming to the club on Friday 6th April at 8pm to give us a presentation on the tour and answer any questions you may have.
Please let me know if you’d be keen attend the 6th April so I can get rough numbers.
