Parliament Hill Bowling Club

Parliament Hill Bowling Club Founded in 1937, a friendly lawn bowls members club on Highgate Road, Hampstead Heath in North London. Open from April to Sept for guests and members.

We are a mixed club, we have been established since 1937. We are looking for new members from any age to be taught a new sport, we have 2 qualified County Coaches who, will give lessons most days free of charge by appointment. We are Registered with the English and Middlesex County Bowls Associations, we play friendly Club matches and competitive County matches. Please feel welcome and come along

any afternoon, People has the misconception that this is an old persons sport but there are many fine young players coming into the sport at the top level. We look forward to seeing new faces from all age groups, Race sexes & disabilities. We have a wheelchair especially designed for the green, so that nobody who wants to bowls is not excluded.

If you can, you are definitely old enough to join us!!
I don’t know why but when I suggest bowling, I get the answer ‘I’m not old enough yet’. The 85 year olds I have met through bowls club, are STILL bowling now BECAUSE they started bowling in their 50s or 60s. They have balance, flexibility and strength and they are part of a community – all important factors for a healthy old age.
So if you STILL want to be bowling in your 80s, 90s and on – you need to start now!! Chocolate biscuits optional.
Final note: Actually you can bowl at any age from about 6 or 8 onwards, but here our licence with Corporation of London means you have to be 12+

When the weather is like this, I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon! On the Heath, in the sunshine, with your friends. Wearing white is optional! Our public bowling is run by our volunteers and the money raised goes towards supporting the not-for-profit club. We love sharing our little square of heaven so people get to experience what we love about bowling. If you fancy a go, get in touch by email or on our website.

Did you know that we have a hedgehog ramp? Just in case one inadvertently finds itself stuck in the ditch and can’t get out it, here is their mini escape route. There are hedgehogs on the Heath, but they only come out at night when no one is around, so I cannot report if it has ever been used! Even though hedgehogs can roam up to 2 miles at night so the hedgehogs on the Heath are genetically diverse from the hedgehogs in Regents Park, probably to do with urbanisation.
