Trust works both ways.
If you want honesty from people, you have to create an environment where honesty feels safe.
If every mistake is met with blame or criticism, people quickly learn to hide things.
And that’s dangerous.
Because the problem doesn’t disappear.
You just stop hearing about it.
The best environments I’ve experienced are those where people can say:
“I got that wrong.”
“I don’t know.”
“I need help.”
“I have a different idea.”
And know they’ll be heard.
That’s not weakness.
That’s psychological safety.
And it applies far beyond the workplace.
In yoga we call it a practice for a reason we practice, we may wobble & that’s ok
It’s also fundamental to good coaching.
My clients need to be able to tell me when they’re struggling, when they haven’t practised, when something doesn’t feel right or when they’ve simply had a rubbish week.
No judgement.
That’s where the real work happens.
People don’t need another person telling them to be perfect. They need somewhere they can be honest.
What kind of environment do you create for the people around you?
