✨ SOMETHING VERY EXCITING IS COMING TO STRAIGHT UP… ✨

We are SO excited to welcome Kim Thursfield to Straight Up for an exclusive 6-week programme, working with our Saturday Theatre students to build their confidence, develop their performance skills and get them AUDITION READY! 🎭🎤🌟

And the best part? They’ll be learning from someone who knows the industry from both sides of the audition room. 👀

Kim has spent more than 18 years working across the performing arts industry, with experience spanning professional performance, vocal coaching, teaching, casting, talent representation, producing and directing.

🎭 Trained at the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts from the age of 12
🎤 Performed professionally across the UK and internationally
✨ Performed at The BRIT Awards
🎶 Worked in UK tours, pantomime and international productions
💃 Performed alongside James & Ola Jordan from Strictly Come Dancing
🎤 Qualified vocal coach with years of experience developing young performers
📖 Author of The Future Performer

Over the six weeks, Kim will be bringing all of that experience into the room with our students — helping them understand what makes a performer stand out, how to approach auditions with confidence and how to show their individuality rather than simply trying to be “perfect”.

Because being audition-ready isn’t just about being able to sing, act or dance.

It’s about walking into a room and being confident enough to BE SEEN. 🌟

Sometimes people think the show is the finish line.

I don’t.

For me, it’s all the little moments that led us there.

The friendships that grew.
The confidence that quietly appeared.
The encouragement from teammates.
The teachers who believed in them.
The parents cheering louder than anyone.

Then someone presses a camera button… and suddenly those moments become memories we get to keep forever.

Today we started sharing this year’s show photos with our families, and it’s reminded me just how special this community really is.

It’s funny how different everyone looks when they’re not in sweaty dance clothes! 😂

Still smiling from Saturday’s Adult Social… 💜✨

One thing I love most about our adult classes is the community we’ve built. It started with dance, but it’s become so much more than that.

Safe to say… we completely took over The Holly Bush! 🤣 Between the laughs, the dancing and everyone refusing to stand still, I think we gave the whole pub its own little show. 💃🕺

So grateful for every single person who came along. Nights like these remind me it’s never just about the classes🫶 it’s about the friendships, the confidence and the memories we make together.

Already looking forward to the next one! 💜✨

A big hello to our local community 👋 I'm Beca — founder of Straight Up Dance & Theatre School.

I've been performing since I was three. I earned a scholarship to Italia Conti, then went on to train around the world — and everything I learned, I poured into building a school right here in Loughton, for children like yours.

Because when you put your heart into your passion, you deserve people who do the same. 💜

Straight Up isn't your average dance school. We're a full performing arts school — dance, drama, musical theatre and singing under one roof — where we excite talent, nurture it and develop it. Like no one else.

Dance. Act. Sing. Perform.

For over a decade I've watched children walk in nervous and walk out glowing — some all the way to the West End (our students have starred in Matilda, The Lion King and MJ The Musical). Every year they take to a real stage in our own full productions and showcases. And because every child is different, no one is ever made to fit a mould.
