Court closure and refurbishment
Islington Council and Better have announced they will be repainting all the courts and lines and carrying out some surface repair from tree root damage.

This means they will be closing:
Courts 1-6 From mid-August until mid-September
Courts 7-11 from mid-September until mid-October.

Your patience is appreciated! If we receive more details of closure dates we will post them here.

There may not be the traditional Highbury Fields Summer Tournament this year, but Local Tennis Leagues and Tie Break 10s have joined together for a special event on Sunday 18th July 2021. Good news, the weekend mix-ins (open to all) restart from Saturday June 5th!

Everyone is welcome, whatever your playing standard – you don’t need to be a Maria Shrapova or a Roger Federer! When there are a lot if us we play short matches, so no-one sits out for too long. And usually we hang around and have a coffee together after we finish playing!

A welcome update from Better who manage the courts: "Customers can now cancel courts on their online Better account and so long as 4 hours’ notice is given, they will automatically get a credit to the value of what they paid, added to their online booking account. (This will only function on mobiles if you have the latest version of the Better App.)"

Well the courts are still busy - join Better pay and play to be able to book 7 days in advance from 10pm - and get the £1.50 per hour discount on the courts.
Unfortunately at this time there is no organised social drop in.... hopefully one day this will return!

Wow the courts are BUSY...GLL Better members who purchase pay and play for Islington are able to book courts 14 days in advance so writing this on Tuesday 16th June at 10pm tonight I will be able to book for Tuesday 30th June...and the courts are likely to sell out by the following morning. That is all 11 courts across all hours 8am to 9pm. There is a little more availability at Rosemary Branch and Tufnell Park. Sometimes it is worth passing by at 10 minutes past the hour to see if there are any no shows...empty courts. There is no social drop in tennis at the moment. This is likely to remain the case until the indoor facilities open again...to relieve some demand for activities.
