4 riders from Musselburgh Monarchs made the journey to London to compete in rounds 7&8 of the 2022 British BMX national series held at Peckham BMX at Burgess Park.
Moray Watson who races in the 8 year old boys class made it to semi finals both days. He missed out making it through to the finals but fought hard for points coming in 3rd in the B final on Saturday, then won his B final on Sunday placing him 9th overall for the day. Fraser Watson riding in the 40-44 Cruiser category placed 5th on Saturday but produced an amazing race in his Sunday final taking 1st position to give him his first national win in a long time. Current British champ Ian Archibald came away with 2nd place finishes both days in 50+ cruiser whilst Stew Campbell in the same class who was returning from surgery after injury managed to make the final both days placing an 8th on Saturday and 4th on Sunday.
Great results from the team.
The series moves on to Birmingham for the last 2 rounds on 13th and 14th August.

Musselburgh Monarchs BMX racing club had a meeting last night to discuss the future of the track at Balcarres Road. This has come about after consultation with East Lothian Council and their potential proposal to seek funding to upgrade the existing site to a higher quality, maintenence free, all year round facility.

Maintaining the track, in its current format, to a safe rideable standard has become a difficult task over the last few years. This is mainly due to the time and effort required by volunteers, as well as having available funds to purchase materials. In its current state of repair the track is beginning to attract negative commentary, and without a committed maintenence programme it will continue to be reclaimed by nature as well as being deliberately damaged by the actions of a few anti social elements.

As a club we have deep roots in BMX racing, as well as acheivements and future aspirations at regional, national, european and world championship level. We would not wish for any new track on the existing site to stray too far away from these racing principles but also appreciate the need for any new facility to be accessible and attractive to a wider demographic.

Folllowing the meeting we had a consensus that, as a club, we were happy to support the development of a fully asphalt pump/race track hybrid on the existing site and look forward to be consulted and directly involved with its design.

The brilliant new Ormiston pump track is having an official opening day this weekend. There will be an ice cream van and other refreshments to purchase at the event and Radio Saltire will be playing music and running the PA on the day.
There will be a marquee there with a few members from Musselburgh Monarchs BMX club. Feel free to come and chat to us about anything BMX.
Hopefully see you there.

Here is how to find it.
