Karate Shinboku Kai has been in existence for over 35 years. It has Dojos in Elephant & Castle and London Bridge, working in partnership with King's College London & the University of London Karate Clubs. Between these clubs there are numerous weekly training sessions that all members are welcome to attend and a few specialist lessons with a more basic or more advanced emphasis. We have regular trips abroad for seminars, cultural exchange and to learn from world-renowned masters.

Congratulations to Neuma and Dom (affectionately known as โ€œNomโ€) on passing their yellow belt (7th Kyu) gradings last Saturday!

Neuma and Dom have impressed us all. In just over six months as part of our community, they have graded twice, put on strong performances in both sparring and kata at competition and proven that training consistently has tangible results ๐Ÿฅ‹

Congratulations to Neuma and Dom (affectionately known as โ€œNomโ€) for passing their yellow belt (7th Kyu) grading last Saturday!

At SHINBOKU, we training in continuous sparring, which involves โ€œtraditionalโ€ standing sparring, but also grappling and groundwork. This allows students to develop personal styles of sparring and applications.

Thatโ€™s why it was great to learn from Les Bubka at his โ€œwhat type of fighter are you?โ€ seminar, focusing on all of these things! We have plenty of drills and approaches to bring back and share at trainingโ€”thank you, Les!๐Ÿฅ‹

Weโ€™ll hopefully see some of the other attendees at an open mat soon..!

Six of our members attended the Combat Karate Championships 2026, showcasing their Kata (patterns) and Kumite (sparring) against other Karate clubs.

Even against sometimes more experienced opponents, they faced every challenge with spirit and skill, and received compliments on the quality of their karate (with two having trained for only six months!). They have come out of this as better martial artists, with medals around their necks too..! ๐Ÿ…

They have done themselves and their club very proudโ€”congratulations to them!

SHINBOKU will be attending the AKA Combat Karate competition on 29 March. Weโ€™re excited for our squad to have the opportunity to demonstrate and test their Kata (patterns) and Kumite (sparring) against like-minded clubsโ€”their training for it is already paying off!
