At the end of April I am going to stop using WhatsApp for groups, and switch to Slack instead under the banner Academy Chess England. Slack is a channel-based messaging platform which you may already use for work. I use it for teaching chess, and I will use it to make announcements about tournaments, and discuss topics you might find interesting. You can use it in your browser with no installation required, you just need to create a free account to log in.

Firstly make sure you are signed up to my free newsletter and consider upgrading to a paid plan if you want to be the first to register for my over the board events in July and August -https://chesscircuit.substack.com/subscribe - and secondly subscribe to my podcast - https://anchor.fm/thechesscircuit on whatever your favourite podcast platform is.
What is Slack?
Here is a simple guide to the platform - https://slack.com/.../articles/115004071768-What-is-Slack-
Join with your full name so I know who you are. Once you join Slack you can add yourself to the various channels - I recommend joining the tornelo-help and the general channels. Conversations are divided into Public (everyone can read those), Private channels (there is one for paid subscribers to the newsletter) and direct messages (only we can read those).
Why am I moving to Slack from WA? (for Groups, you can always message me on Whatsapp if you have to)
I like using WA, but it is far less secure than Slack - we have had issues with spam and with privacy and some of you have stopped using the WA groups as a result.
I have been using Slack for a while now, to work with groups and individual students, and it is a great platform. It would be nice to think we could use it productively!

Once upon a time, The Chess Circuit was a print magazine - download all 13 issues in glorious colour from this link for just a fiver! https://payhip.com/b/Jvek - now it’s a newsletter - https://chesscircuit.substack.com/subscribe - and a podcast - https://anchor.fm/thechesscircuit and you are invited to subscribe.

My eBay shop - I am selling a large collection of chess books and some other stuff - https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/adra3204 is my page, if you are interested.

Hampstead Congress today!
You can find Chess England chess.com club tournaments by going to play - live chess, then clicking on the top right tournaments tab and you should see Hampstead listed there, and some others. That is top right.

Once you click on the link to the tournament it adds it to your list of tabs but you have to register one hour and no sooner before the games start. You can still register just before the event begins at 11, or whilst the event is running, though you might miss round one!

Here is the direct link, though sometimes that link changes so its safer to follow the procedure above!

Apologies to all who hoped to play at Hampstead this weekend. We have just been informed (14.56) that we can't use the venue and we will have to cancel the tournament.

Age UK have decided to close their centres due to risk of infection from the Corona virus, and Hampstead is one of those venues affected.

Watch this spot for further news, but if you have paid for the current Hampstead weekend, 14-15 March, I apologise. You can have a refund or use this as credit for a future event at Hampstead.
