Wushu literally means "Martial Art" in Chinese language. It is usually taken to mean any and all Chinese martial arts. Our club is predominantly a Modern Wushu club, highlighted by performances and competitions, as well as use of training weapons. The History of Wushu is enormous. Shaolin Fist practiced by monks started at least 1300 years ago. There are hundreds of various styles and "schools" of
Chinese martial arts, some of the more famous styles include Taiji, Shaolin, Wing Chun, mantis, Hung Gar, and many weapon styles. Modern Wushu, a more athletic-focused and competitive sport, began in the mid-20th century. Some of the most recognizable kung fu movie stars, such as Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Ray Park and Donnie Yen, are all former Wushu athletes. Fight choreography from movies like The Matrix, Kill Bill, Serenity, and countless Chinese Kung Fu movies are also heavily Wushu based.
