Update: Unfortunately Nicky had to abandon her attempt early due to dangerously strong winds across the mountain ridges. We’re sure she’ll be back 👊
The legend that is Nicky Spinks will tackle a Double Ramsay Round in the high mountains of Scotland this weekend.
The inspirational INOV8 ambassador wants to celebrate 20 years of life, following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2006.
She aims to run two loops of the classic 58-mile, 24-peak route - including two visits to the summit of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain - totalling a monstrous 57,00ft (17,000m) of ascent.
Nicky previously ran an ‘alternative’ Double Ramsay Round in July 2018 in 55hrs 56mins. On that occasion her turning point between loops was in the mountains.
This time she wants to run a full anticlockwise loop from Glen Nevis, before turning around and doing it all again clockwise.
Nicky said: “My aim is firstly to finish and hopefully in less than 48 hours, but it would be nice to go faster than my double in 2018.
“However, this is an extremely hard challenge for me. I’m older and not as fast. I know this will test my current physical and mental ability to the maximum.
“It’s 20 years since I had cancer and I want to celebrate and challenge myself. During those 20 years I’ve run a lot of big challenges. I am proud to have raised money and hopefully helped inspire other people too.”
For this weekend’s challenge, Nicky is raising money for cancer charity Odyssey and Galloway Mountain Rescue Team. You can donate here: https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/double-ramsay-round-20-years-after-having-cancer
