When Lionel Messi was just 13, he was asked who his heroes were.

His answer included his father, Jorge Messi.

Years later, Jorge would watch his son finally lift the World Cup, a moment that made everything they had sacrificed together worth it. 🐐🇦🇷

Jorge was seriously ill. After Messi's emotional celebration against Algeria, he admitted: “I've had some tough days. It wasn't related to football.”

His family later asked for “responsibility, prudence and humanity” amid the rumours surrounding Jorge's health.
