Hackney Weightlifting Club was established in 1924 and, thanks to our head coach Patrick Atteridge, the oldest Olympic weightlifting club in England — and possibly in the UK — is still going strong.

We couldn’t celebrate the competition last year because we were focused on Coach Pat’s recovery. But here we are today, teaching and promoting the sport, supporting our community, and carrying forward our true values — to live healthily and peacefully, just like Pat.

Well done to our lifters! We missed those who couldn’t make it, and we’re so grateful for the amazing group of people who are always around — helping, supporting, and fighting alongside us. Thank you! 🙏🏻

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our dear friend and master lifter, Trisha.

The Olympic lifting community mourns your departure.

HWLC and Coach Pat will always be grateful for the support you gave us, from competing to being coached, and for sharing beautiful moments with us when we were abroad lifting together.

Our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

It has been a pleasure to coach these beautiful and strong ladies: , .daw , Beth and Jen from the Lea Rowing Club, Hackney .

They wanted to polish their lifting technique and get ready for the new rowing season. Following the Lift Engineering Programme, we focused on squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and some rowing-specific exercises.

Wishing them a strong season ahead, and coach is looking forward to watching them compete 💪🏻🙏

Videos of their training at HWLC will be shared soon.

Even though he pulled his back on his first warm-up, he carried on, starting light with 42kg, which was overturned by the jury. He took it again and then followed with 43kg.
Feeling pain in his back, he dropped from 56kg to 45kg, successfully lifting 45kg and 46kg in the C&J, for a total of 89kg.

It wasn’t what he expected, as he had felt strong during his training period, but he was happy to compete in his 20th World Masters Championship.

Well done! To us, he is an example of how to face any situation with determination and resilience 🙏💪🏻

Congratulations to our head coach Patrick Atteridge for finishing 4th in the World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Poland.

He did 43, 45, and 46 in the Sn**ch. In the C&J 55,60 and missing 65kg, what could have given him the Bronze.

For sure he will keep training and rehabbing with coach for the next comp 💪🏻🙏
