Do you use plyometrics in your training?

Plyometrics are a key movement for any explosive action in sport. From accelerating out of the blocks to dunking the basketball, all movements involve some form of plyometrics.

But what are plyometrics?

Plyometrics are explosive movements which utilise the stretch shortening cycle of our tendons. This includes an eccentric, amortisation and concentric phase, which ultimately gives our tendon a 'spring' effect.

The movement goes as follows.
An eccentric control phase.
A brief amortisation phase, a pause, .2s or less.
A powerful concentric 'spring' phase.

All of this strengthens, stiffens and protects our tendons and muscles in preparation for explosive movements in sport.
