Happy Pride month from all of us at Camden Shorinji Kempo🏳️‍🌈

We're incredibly proud of CJ and Rose for giving their all at the grading last Sunday - and if you'd like to start your journey in martial arts, now is a great time to join us!

With a mix of basics (punches & kicks), pair work, meditation and throws (take-downs), there's something for everyone. You'll learn practical self-defense techniques and become part of our awesome community.

We've got some exciting sessions coming up throughout May and then into June for Pride month 🏳️‍🌈 - it's a great time to join us!

Our classes are a fun mix of:
👊Basics: where we teach you how to punch with precision, kick with tenacity and duck any attack
🥋Pair work: where you get to train with a partner and try out the techniques
🧘‍♀️Meditation: where we spend a moment to keep ourselves grounded yet alert
🤼‍♂️Throws: where we practice take-downs

Our classes will show you some great self-defense techniques, but most importantly you'll be welcomed into a welcoming and friendly dojo and become part of our amazing community.

We have awarded our first Black Belt, a mile stone for a Sensei that I’ll carry with me for a long time.

Training people to help them push past self-imposed limits and watching them support each others' mental health, as well as confront challenges together is exactly why this club was founded.

It has been my privilege to work with Len, Camden Kempos's first home grown Black Belt. They have gone above and beyond in leading the club, completing all safeguarding and checks. Their commitment and consistency sets such a powerful example as they transition from kyu to Dan grade.

This is an important milestone but I’m equally proud of those who are still building, learning, and moving at their own pace. Not everyone’s Kempo journey is the same and that’s exactly how it should be. Personal.

Every week I am inspired by this dojo, making showing up the easiest thing in the world!

It's time to celebrate our recent kyu graders, we are super proud of you!

We've had 4 of our kenshi take a big step and successfully take part in gradings:
- Phoebe getting her 5th kyu (yellow belt)
- Luke getting his 4th kyu (orange belt)
- Kate getting her 4th kyu (orange belt)
- Lucy getting her 2nd kyu (blue belt)

Well done to all of you, all your hard work has paid off!

Last month, we took part in the BSKF Winter Seminar where we had some exellent teaching, learnt new techniques, trained together with kenshi from dojos all over the country and had a great time practicing our ukemi. As always Kempo isn't necessarily about big moves but rather knowing how to use the body as a lever - can you spot Len being taken down expertly?!

We've somehow almost made it through a grey January - which means February and LGTBQ+ history month is just around the corner!

We've got a jam packed training schedule for you, that you won't want to miss. We will be weaving in stories from our local heroines, celebrating how far we've come, but also acknowledging how much is ahead of us in the current political climate.

Last week, we had a lovely visit from Harry from Go London, the Mayor of London organisation who generously funded us this past year. We had a great time showing him what Kempo is all about - team work, finessing your techniques, practical self defense, and of course a whole evening of fun.

This month is our last month where we're able to offer free classes to anyone under 24 - so come and join us and grab your tickets while you can!
