Rehearsals at the Teatro Nacional de Cuba carried a pulse unlike anywhere else in the world.
While working on the production team alongside for the international creation of ¡Vamos Cuba!, moments like this would happen between takes. began singing Carlos Varela’s “Una Palabra”—and the entire room stood still.
“Una palabra no dice nada, y al mismo tiempo lo esconde todo…”
Rewatching this today gives me chills, but it also carries a heavy ache. Right now, our colleagues, friends, and families on the island are enduring unimaginable hardship—facing days without electricity, food shortages, and hospitals operating in the dark.
Yet, even in the deepest adversity, the Cuban people have always held their truth, dignity, and soul through their art..
Being part of bringing Cuban culture to the world stage and running our dance school has been one of the greatest privileges of our life, but my heart and Antonio's remains with the people living this reality every single day.
