Thanks for organising a great open mat session.
The idea of an open mat day that
Brian and Kieran delivered on Sunday at the V&E judo club in Cheshunt was superb.
2 hours of what karate people think of as a wonderful way to spend a few hours on a Sunday went by so quickly .
So what did they do ?
Explain everything.
Warm up, and what a great warm up .
Those who run their own clubs took notes !
Drills.
A few small hydration breaks .
And then what every karate club probably does, Sparring.
Different styles and clubs but sparring was similar.
The fully matted Judo club allowed floor work safety and safety throughout the day was incredibly important especially as we had a few younger students who took the opportunity to use the judo crash mats for some amazing throws and landings!
The speed and power was whatever you and your partner decided on.
The younger or less experienced students had the benefit of having so many top karate ka their , Sensei from Clubb’s gladly giving their experience and advice.
It was warm but from everybody’s face at the end, it was a great day.
