The Canoe Slalom World Cup 4 gets underway tomorrow at the iconic Olympic Whitewater Stadium in Vaires-sur-Marne, France

A total of 236 athletes from 46 countries are set to compete, with Europe strongly represented by 170 athletes – more than 72% of the field.

Just weeks after the World Championships in Oklahoma City, where European paddlers claimed 20 of the 24 individual medals and six of the eight world titles, all six European individual world champions are back in action in France.

The 2026 Paddle Europe Slalom Cup champions are confirmed

After nine competitions across Europe, the season is complete and the four overall winners have been crowned:

K1 Men: Jakub Brzezinski 🇵🇱 – 180 pts
K1 Women: Eva Pietracha 🇫🇷 – 196 pts
C1 Men: Benjamin Kies 🇩🇪 – 141 pts
C1 Women: Laurene Roisin 🇫🇷 – 180 pts

France finished with two overall titles, while Poland and Germany claimed one each.

Among the highlights of the final rankings, Pietracha produced a brilliant finish to the season with victories in Prague and Cesson-Sévigné, while Roisin dominated the C1 Women classification. The closest battle came in C1 Men, where Benjamin Kies defeated Elouan Debliquy by just one point, 141 to 140.

Europe once again left its mark on the world stage in Poznań!

The 2026 Canoe Sprint + Paracanoe World Championships ended with 71 European medals across the 36 medal events.

26 gold
20 silver
25 bronze

That means Europe claimed 65.1% of all medals awarded, and more than 70% of all gold medals.

Hungary topped the overall medal table with 14 medals, while Germany matched Hungary with five world titles. Great Britain led the Paracanoe standings, and Germany finished on top of the Canoe Sprint medal table.

There was also a major historical milestone in Poznań: the 51th championships passed the mark of 3,400 Canoe Sprint World Championship medals awarded in history.

After the final races, the historical total reached 3,413 medals — 3,059 of them won by European paddlers, an extraordinary 89.6%.

From Hungary’s overall success and Germany’s Sprint strength to Great Britain’s Paracanoe performance and another memorable championship for Fernando Pimenta, Poznań 2026 added another strong chapter to Europe’s World Championship history.

European sweep in the 5000m finals in Poznań

The 2026 Canoe Sprint World Championships ended with a remarkable European performance in the four 5000m races:
Carlotta Loske (GER) – C1 Women 5000m
Balazs Adolf (HUN) – C1 Men 5000m
Melina Andersson (SWE) – K1 Women 5000m
Fernando Pimenta (POR) – K1 Men 5000m

Europe claimed all four world titles and 11 of the 12 medals available.

There were also some major historical milestones:

Loske delivered Germany’s first-ever world title in C1 Women 5000m and completed Poznań with two gold medals.

Adolf returned to the top after his world titles in 2021 and 2023. Hungary’s three gold medals in this event have all been won by him.

Katerina Milova’s bronze in K1 Women 5000m gave Czechia its first individual women’s World Championship medal in 20 years.

And Fernando Pimenta reached another extraordinary landmark. His victory took him to 22 World Championship medals – 7 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.

He is now level on total medals with Lisa Carrington, Maxim Opalev, Andreas Dittmer, Ivan Patzaichin and Josefa Idem, and sits 14th on the all-time medal table when ties are separated by gold medals.

Even more impressively, only three athletes in the all-time top 20 are still active: Ivan Shtyl, Lisa Carrington and Fernando Pimenta.

A fitting end to Poznań 2026.

ALL-EUROPEAN FINAL, THREE DIFFERENT PIECES OF HISTORY

The Men’s K2 500m at the World Championships in Poznań delivered a remarkable European story.

All nine boats in the Final A were European — and the podium brought three very different milestones.

Germany returned to the top of the world for the first time since Ronald Rauhe and Tim Wieskötter won in 2007, with Jacob Schopf and Max Lemke taking gold.

Portugal continued an extraordinary run through João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, who claimed silver and made it three consecutive World Championship podiums in the Men’s K2 500m: 2023 2025 2026

Czechia produced one of the stories of the race, with Jakub Špicar and Daniel Havel storming from 9th at halfway to bronze, securing the country’s first-ever World Championship medal in the Men’s K2 500m.

Three nations. Three achievements. One final dominated entirely by Europe.

BACK-TO-BACK WORLD CHAMPION. HISTORY MADE.

Liudmyla Luzan has done something only one woman had ever achieved before.

The Ukrainian retained her Women’s C1 200m World Championship title in Poznań, winning in 44.40 and becoming just the second athlete in history — and the first European — to successfully defend the world crown in this event.

Before Luzan, only Canada’s Laurence Vincent-Lapointe had managed consecutive World titles.

But this story started long before Poznań.

In Montemor-o-Velho 2015, an 18-year-old Luzan was already on the Junior World podium:

Olympic medallist in Paris

FROM JØRGENSEN TO MØRCKE: DENMARK HAS A NEW K1 200M WORLD CHAMPION

Five years after Emma Jørgensen won Denmark’s first Women’s K1 200m world title on home water in Copenhagen, Frederikke Hauge Mørcke has become the second Danish World Champion in the event.

Mørcke won in Poznań in 39.71, ahead of Hungary’s Anna Lucz and Spain’s Sara Ouzande.

And the connection is remarkable.

Jørgensen and Mørcke were World Champions together in the K2 500m in 2023. Now they are also the only two Danish paddlers to have won the Women’s K1 200m world crown.

There was another familiar name on the podium too: Anna Lucz was also silver behind Jørgensen in 2021.

For Mørcke, the title completes a superb season after becoming European Champion in Montemor-o-Velho in June.

50 EDITIONS LATER, POLAND IS BACK ON THE K1 500M PODIUM

The Men’s K1 500m reached a special milestone in Poznań: the 50th World Championship edition of the event, first contested in 1948.

And Europe played a major role in the historic final.

Adam Varga claimed silver, while Alex Borucki, only 20 years old, took bronze in front of the home crowd.

For Poland, Borucki’s medal ended a 15-year wait for a World Championship podium in the Men’s K1 500m. The previous Polish medallist was Marek Twardowski, World Champion in Szeged in 2011.

Borucki even led the race at halfway, reaching 250m in 47.29.

His 2026 season is becoming extraordinary:

European Champion – K1 500m
U23 World Champion – K1 500m
Senior World bronze – K1 500m

From Gert Fredriksson, the first World Champion in 1948, to a new Polish generation in 2026, the K1 500m continues to connect eras of European canoe sprint.

SPAIN’S WOMEN KEEP DELIVERING IN POZNAŃ

Spain’s women’s kayak programme continues to show impressive consistency at the World Championships.

The Women’s K4 500m added another major result, with Sara Ouzande, Lucía Val, Daniela García and Bárbara Pardo taking silver. After becoming World Champions in 2025 and European Champions earlier this year, the Spanish K4 has now extended its remarkable run to eight consecutive international podiums.

There was also a special individual breakthrough for Laia Pèlachs, who claimed silver in the K1 Women 1000m and secured the first senior World Championship medal of her career.

Spain also added bronze medals through Carlos Arévalo in the K1 Men 200m and the Men’s C4 500m crew of Cayetano García, Pablo Martínez, Manuel Fontán and Diego Domínguez.
