This is a post to show you all that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Not many of you know but at the age of 14 I was diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis.
Idiopathic” means there is no definite cause. Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common type of scoliosis and is a curvature of the spine.
From a young age doctors were persistent with me having spinal fusion surgery to straighten my spine as they were adamant it would get worse as I got older. Although having surgery would of straighten my spine, I was warned that in my later years I may still experience health issues such as loss of mobility, nerve damage and increase rate at which those areas of the spine may degenerate.
I was then notified that if left untreated, in the later years of life, the ribcage could be pushed against the heart and lungs, causing breathing problems as well as making it difficult for the heart to pump blood around the body. This could also increase the chances of lung infections, such as pneumonia, and lead to problems such as heart failure.
For that reason alone was one of the main reasons as to why I started training properly as I refused to let the news define me. Through exercise I managed to avoid having surgery by building enough muscle and flexibility to manage day to day life.
I’ve always been the type to never let my past define me, or better yet let anything hold me back. So this is just a little motivation and reminder that l you have to grow through what you go through and anything is possible when you put your faith in God🙏🏾✌🏾
