I like to use a variety of small equipment in classes to keep the sessions varied and challenging. Recently we’ve been working with weights. Using the weights helps increase our bone density; building muscles and strengthening our joints. It also means we’re working our deep stabilising tummy muscles harder to control movements and therefore enhancing the stability and strength of our spine. Improving posture and balance. On top of all that it’s great fun using the weights in class and everyone loves it. I’m using 1kg dumbbells but you can use 2kg or 4kg with this sequence as you’re supported on the mat so have a go 💪🏻 Remember to warm up first 😅

Lomond the most southerly Munro which is stunningly beautiful. The pics start from the way up with a moody shot of the loch and some rather ominous looking clouds ⛅️ but we had amazing sunshine all the way up with clear views of the islands on Loch Lomond from the top. Fantastic views of the southern highlands all the way to Ben Nevis. Magic ✨😅🤣

I love using the foam roller in class and i use it every week to release my shoulders, hips and spine. When you use the roller you increase your range of movement, open up the chest, and challenge your deep stabilising tummy muscles so it’s a full body core workout. In fact just lying on the roller for 10 minutes after a day of sitting at your desk is a great release for the spine. It’s also slow, flowing mindful movement so I always feel so good afterwards. Use a full length roller to lie on - 90cm is good. Here are a few shoulder exercises to try 😊🧘‍♀️💪🏻

When I first started doing Pilates I didn’t like doing the balance work because I found it difficult and and wasn’t very good at it. However I soon discovered that the more I practised the easier it became. Did you know that if you focus your eyes on something static straight in front of you it helps with your balance? Focus is one of the principles of Pilates. When you practise balance you need to focus otherwise it doesn’t work. This will stop your brain from racing around and when you coordinate the breath with the movement, your heart rate will stop racing too. You are also realigning your body and strengthening the core muscles around your spine, your joints and the muscles around your joints. So at the end of a Pilates session you will feel stronger, more focused and less stressed 😊 There’s no denying that it’s hard work but building up slowly and carefully is the key to good progression.
As Joseph Pilates said ‘ in 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference’

We’ve been practising the Running Man exercise in class this week. Challenging our balance and our brains by standing on 1 leg whilst moving opposite arms and legs in different poses. Coordination, stability and control are all fundamentals of Pilates. Functional movement, reducing the risk of falling and strengthening our core. In the classes we start by standing on 1 leg and then slowly building up to dynamic balance. Come and have a try 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Climbing Ben Vorlich a few weeks ago. This was the first Munro I’ve climbed since I broke my wrist and arm last year so I felt very chuffed to have made it to the top. The clouds covered the peak on the way up and then the mist cleared and we were treated to the most amazing view and lunch spot. Although I worked hard to regain strength in my wrist and arm after the injury I found that my confidence was knocked and that was the biggest hurdle. So The Proclaimers track seemed to fit my mood at the time being Queen of the Hill and getting back on the horse 🐎 😂 👸 The last shot is of Loch Tay (again)post swim just because it was magical

Swimming in Scotland this summer 🏊‍♀️ First shot is in Loch Tay with Ben Lawers in the background. A Munro I climbed a few years ago with . The next 2 pics are in the North Sea near St Andrews Invigoratingly gorgeous. Then followed by Pittenweem tidal pool where you can do proper lengths (very quickly as it was pretty chilly 🥶) Ending in my favourite outdoor heated sea water pool in Gourock. There was an exercise class going on at the same time which increased the size of the waves 🌊😅but great fun 🤩
