As the new year approaches, let us look back at how the previous one ended: a dominant varsity victory!!!
👑
Starting with the MVP of the game as voted for by our opponents, . And how could he have not been the MVP! Touchdowns every way you can think of and even some which you can't. Pinpoint passing and nasty duking, it was like watching a uniball Lamar Jackson out there! Add to that some hard nosed running which got us the yards we needed when we needed them and you have a clear MVP recipe, just missing a cherry on top. Congratulations!!!
👑
Next we have our defensive MVP for the game, . A spectre was haunting the varsity field, the spectre of Leo. Faster than a speeding bullet and hitting harder than a fright train, Leo made it clear that nowhere on the field was safe. His all seeing eye meant he could sniff out a play before even the offence! A well deserved DMVP for a fantastic performance!
Now time for a couple honourable mentions.
First, . While Leo won the DMVP for his performance in the secondary, a wrap up of the game would not be complete without acknowledgment of our fantastic linebacker core and it's lynchpin, Ciro. Truly the complete backer, whether he was screaming off the edge straight for the QB, plugging gaps in the trenches, or blowing up the short passing game. The Platonic ideal of a linebacker!
And last, but by no means least, Joe Wheeler. Nevermind his ability to step up at OT when his number was called (impressive enough on its own), it's his defensive antics which won him this mention. Despite springing out of a stance that everyone swore should not work (coaches very much included), he still set arguably the hardest and most disciplined edge we saw all season along side some nasty effort sacks which had every lineman going crazy on the sideline. Congratulations Joe, can't wait to see more next year!
Side note: I may need to look up the definition of "soon". @ Victory Lane
