5 habits to help improve your emotional wellness

1. Protect your self-esteem
2. Take control after a failure
3. Distract yourself from brooding thoughts
4. Find meaning after a loss
5. Recover self-worth after a rejection

At the weekend I found myself brooding and stewing over something that really was making me feel low and unmotivated.

This article says that as soon as the thought begins, distract yourself by engaging in a task that requires concentration.

I hopped straight on to my laptop and engrossed myself in my touch typing course and felt pretty chipper after that and inspired to go for a walk 💚

Acquiring new habits isn't easy. But isn't it time we gave our emotional health the same tender loving care we typically afford our physical bodies?

Focus on your strengths, to help connect to your inner confidence.

To build a solid foundation of inner confidence, think of your confidence as a tabletop that is supported by four legs. Each leg is one of your strengths and needs to be solid to support the tabletop.

What do you do best?
What are your strengths?
What would someone who cares about you, say you are good at?

We all have strengths and when explored and nurtured, they can be used to activate your inner confidence.

When you stop focusing on your perceived limitations and choose to pay attention to what you are good at and use your strengths to propel you forward, it’s exciting and invigorating.

Even if a strength comes naturally to you, such as being creative, diplomatic or outgoing, it’s still a strength. Having clarity around your strengths and consciously expressing and using them on a daily basis, will increase your inner confidence.

Remember, when you have inner confidence, you have the power to push yourself out of your comfort zones and take chances that will set you on the path to success.

Ditch self-doubt, to help connect to your inner confidence.

Have you ever felt like you were not good enough? Not intelligent enough, not a good enough mum, not good enough to earn your desired income?

Somewhere along the way you started to believe that you were not ‘whatever enough.’

You’ve heard me say many times that the thoughts you have about yourself (your internal dialogue), create how you feel, which then shows in the actions you take and the results you get.

The trick to ditching self-doubt is ensuring that the thoughts you have about yourself are supportive.

Imagine how you would feel and what life would be like if you removed self-doubt from your internal dialogue?

Can you imagine the adventures you would have, the jobs you would go for, how quick you would make decisions and the difference you would make in the world.

The only way to really know what is possible and how much you’re actually capable of is to just start DOING. We need to trust our choices and face our fears.

Afterall, fears are just ‘false evidence appearing real ‘and doing the very thing we fear, will increase our inner confidence tenfold.

Clarity and knowledge come from action, not ruminating on self-doubts or unknowns.

Taking the big step, chasing the dream, starting before you think you’re ready, doing the perceived impossible, will all blow self-doubt out of the water.

It’s time ditch self-doubt and start DOING.

Speak up, to help connect to your inner confidence.

Do you find that you often let others make the decisions, even when someone asks your opinion?

Do you answer questions with “I don’t mind,” or “It’s up to you,” “You decide.”

Consistently passing the ownership of decisions to others, is a way of telling your inner self that your opinions don’t matter. It sends a signal to others that your preferences don’t need to be stated.

Your opinion matters, you matter.

Knowing where you stand on things, what your preferences are and being able to speak up and share them with others, connects you to feeling worthy and valued.

Anyone who has made a mark in this world has spoken up, presented their ideas, and braved taking a chance to express what they believe in.

Confidence comes from sharing your ideas and believing what you have to say is interesting, valuable and important.

Paying no attention to people’s criticism can help connect to your inner confidence.

When you’re living your life with purpose and taking steps every day to do what matters to you, you’re likely to get criticism from others.

Your ‘amazing’ can make others feel uncomfortable because they see your courage to change, as a judgment on them choosing to stay where they are, and not pursuing their dreams.

Some people will speak up by questioning your declarations and criticising the choices and actions you take.

Others may use underhand tactics by trying to sabotage your efforts, question your motivation and talk about you behind your back.

None of this is about you, it’s a reflection of how your choice to live life on your terms, is making them feel about themselves. Perhaps they are feeling threatened, envious or self-doubting.

Pay no attention to the put downs, stay in your own lane and know you have made the right decisions for you.

Meet them with compassion and an inner confidence, sharing you are honouring yourself and living a life that is meaningful to you
