First light on the J.H. Taylor Course, and the day's work has already begun.

While the course is still quiet, our greenkeepers are out preparing the tees, greens and fairways for another day of golf. It's easy to miss from the clubhouse, but it's a big part of why the course looks the way it does when you arrive.

One club, two very different rounds.

Royal Mid-Surrey's 36 holes split across two courses with genuinely different characters. The J.H. Taylor Course stretches to 6,360 yards off the back tees with two par 5s, built to reward length. The Pam Barton is shorter at 5,521 yards and par 68, leaning on tight, accurate par 4s instead.

Both share the same parkland setting at , but ask very different things of your game.

Tucked inside a bend in the river Thames.

sits inside a curve of the water, set within the mature parkland of in Richmond. With Kew Gardens on one side, the wrapping round the other three.

It's a setting most clubs can't claim: two historic courses, the J.H. Taylor Course and the Pam Barton Course, laid out on this ground since 1892. All within sight of central London, yet somehow feeling nothing like it.

Today is , and we wanted to take a moment to recognise the team who make what it is.

Long before the first tee time, our greenkeepers are already out on the course, cutting, rolling, raking and preparing every hole so that by the time you arrive, it's ready. Rain or shine, every day of the year.

It's easy to take a perfectly presented course for granted. We don't. Without this team, the course simply wouldn't be the same.

So from all of us at Royal Mid-Surrey, thank you to our greenkeepers, today and every day.

The 2nd hole on the J.H. Taylor Course marks the moment Royal Mid-Surrey's historic layout starts to ask more of you.

Set within the mature parkland of Old Deer Park, this long par 5 stretches to 531 yards from the back tees and is flanked by trees and rough on both sides, rewarding a tee shot struck with real commitment. It's officially the longest hole on the course for our members, and no easy outing for anyone.

Straightforward at first sight, but unforgiving if you stray, it's a fitting continuation of a course and club with over 130 years of history.

Most people who play here walk straight past it.

The building in the middle of our course is the King's Observatory, built for King George III in 1769 so he could watch Venus pass across the face of the sun.

Sir William Chambers designed it, and it's Grade I listed today.

Here's the part that surprises people. Long before Greenwich became the world's prime meridian in 1884, the King's clock inside that building set the standard time used by London's government buildings.

And those stone obelisks dotted around the park? Survey markers, put there to line up the observatory's telescopes.

The golf didn't arrive until 1892, which makes us the newest thing to happen on this ground.
