BLUE, performing live after 22 years at this friday.
Who are Blue, the British producers behind the second release ‘The Path Of Least Resistance Meets The Point Of No Return’?
Formed in Cambridge in 1994 the duo of Chris Mann and Paul Darking released their debut single Internal/Internalised on Andrew Weatherall's Sabres Of Paradise label. This was followed by the "Four Of Seven" EP, and their first album "Resistance" which was released in 1995 fusing slow techno with beats & dub.
The single "Circle Line" was used as the title theme for the BBC series "Rail Cops". The duo played live including gigs in Iceland with Björk and Aphex Twin.
Their second album "Mexican Church" was released in 1996 on the new Emission Audio Output label along with an EP of Resistance remixes by artists such as Adrian Sherwood, Moody Boyz, Ashley Beadle, Rootsman and the great Mr Weatherall himself as Deanne Day. A final EP on Emissions "Shake Your Tail Feather" was released at the end of 1996 before the label folded.
Blue then moved to Iris Light where they released two further albums "Night Work" (1998) and "Corrosion" (1999)
After a 22 years hiatus they are due to release their new album, which is a coherent set of tracks made between 1997 and 2001, carefully saved on DAT-tapes. Recorded as building blocks of an ambient album that was never wrapped up at the time, today Mann and Darking stepped back into the studio to complete a story that has been left untold for so many years.
