The Epée Club

The Epée Club The Epée Club of Great Britain - founded in 1900. Promoting British épée fencing today. The Epée Club has been continuously active since its foundation.

On Tuesday 12th June 1900 a meeting styled “the first general meeting constituting the Epée Club “ was held at the Savile Club with 29 founder members present. Among the motions put to the vote was “ This Club is to encourage the use of the epée de combat, in the open air when possible, by pools among its members… For the purposes of this Club’s meetings the epée will be the only weapon recognised

and it is to encourage this weapon alone that this Club is constituted.”

Founded in 1900, the Epée Club predates the British Fencing Association (BFA) and in the early years was left to organise Epée fencing. In 1901 it held an international assault at arms at Steinway Hall and on the following Sunday held a team competition at the Hurlingham Club where the Club still holds its summer pools.
