Notes from | Senior Ride Instructor & Mentor
I first did a spin class ten years ago in America. I can remember the instructor coming over to introduce herself to me; she was warm and magnetic, and she made me feel so welcome as I clumsily struggled to clip in. As soon as the class started, I had an overwhelming sense that this was something I wanted to do, inspired by the way this instructor had made me feel.
I’ve been at Psycle for over five years now. There are so many memories that have been formative, so many wonderful people I have met, got to know and watched grow. In December, I marked the fifth anniversary of my first class with a 90-minute ride. As I was about to start the class, I looked out at the room and realised I knew everyone there. Something became clear to me a couple of years ago: I saw that if I brought myself to each class fully, and allowed myself to be flawed and fallible, that it might connect with people, it might put them at ease and make them feel safe enough to do the same.
In the last year, I have taken on a new role of mentoring instructors. I was drawn to this partly because I have a nerdy fascination with what we can create in a spin class - I could talk for hours about resistance! But mainly, I wanted to be a mentor because it feels like an extension of the nurturing I am trying to do in the studio. Our team gives a lot, and I hope that, in some small way, I can offer each instructor that I mentor a little support, so that they can continue to radiate the warmth and magnetism that permeates a Psycle class. That magic that keeps you coming back and clipping in.
I hope I can share many more moments with you on the bike.
Love, Cescie ###
