Customers visiting The Castle Climbing Centre on Sunday 20 September should be aware that the Saucony Run Shoreditch Half Marathon will be taking place and some roads surrounding The Castle will be affected.

All roads around the route will close at 06:30. Most roads are expected to reopen by 1.15pm.

Check out the route and plan accordingly. Traveling by car is not recommended, and bus routes may be diverted or suspended. More info can be found Saucony Run Shoreditch Half

Our current Good Route is in aid of Hackney Right to Grow. They are a coalition of local growers and food, climate and community activists, campaigning for residents in the London Borough of Hackney to have the right to grow food on public land across the borough. Alex, a member of our garden team, is a volunteer with the group and a strong advocate for the practices they preach. Have a listen and climb The Good Route next time you’re in the Quarry. Join the Team!

The Route Setting Manager is responsible for maintaining the Castle Climbing Centre’s high standard of route setting. As a Route Setting Manager, you will support the team by planning and publishing the centre’s route setting schedule and managing and training the route setting and stripping teams. You will be responsible for the departmental budgeting and ordering, inspecting and upkeeping the department’s PPE. You will also plan departmental and centre development, authoring and implementing departmental health and safety policies; and responding to customer queries and feedback.

New monthly board social 🎯

Starting next Thursday, our women’s+ board social will be kicking off in The Forge. It’s a great chance to develop your board climbing skills in a supportive and social environment, hosted by Kat and Amina. The social is free to attend (with a day pass or membership).

Board climbing involves climbing on a steep, fixed wall. It combines strength, technique and problem-solving to climb short, challenging routes. This style of climbing provides one of the best ways to improve in boulder and lead because it isolates four of the essential elements of climbing hard: Finger strength, core, power and strength.

Please note, The Forge board will be reserved for women+ climbers between 7-9pm on August 27th, continuing on the last Thursday of each month.

Earlier this summer, our legend of a coach climbed his way to the podium in the men’s B3 category of the World Climbing Para Series, Innsbruck. We got to chat with him to get the rundown on how the finals played out. He’s got the drive and determination of a champ, we’re very proud of him and chuffed to have him around.

Snippets from the Garden Party 🪴
Thank you to our community, old and new, who came by. We had first time climbers trying ropes in The Quarry, seasoned veterans battling it out in the CRIMP Comp, and everything in between. Pizzas from homespun and tacos from El Jardín. Dead hang challenges, tours and workshops about community building, Hapa Zome and the Castle Bees. Craft stalls and DJs, a kids corner and a pop-up cafe. We couldn’t have done it without the hours of work put in by staff and volunteers alike, but it’s all worth it taking a walk around on special days like this. Thank you, enjoy the rest of the summer🌞
