For many people, yoga has become synonymous with movement.

Flexibility.
Strength.
Balance.
The perfect pose.

Those things all have their place, but they’re only one part of the story.

What if yoga’s greatest gift isn’t how it helps us move our bodies, but how it helps us move through life?
For me, yoga has never just been about what happens on the mat.

It’s about how we respond to life’s challenges. How we navigate stress, grief and uncertainty. How we build resilience, find community and reconnect with ourselves.

That’s the conversation I want us to have.

What has yoga taught you about life?

One of the biggest myths about yoga is that it’s only about flexibility.

The reality is that yoga can support our health and wellbeing in so many different ways.

That’s one of the reasons I’m delighted to be taking part in this year’s Global Yoga Therapy Day with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. IAYT Official Page

It’s a free online event bringing together practitioners, healthcare professionals, researchers and people who are simply curious to learn more about yoga therapy.

I’d love for you to join us.

I always enjoy events like these because of the conversations they spark.

It was lovely to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people and talk about how we can make yoga and wellbeing more accessible. Thank you for such a thoughtful afternoon.

This memory popped up today from a retreat I led at Tilton House almost 10 years ago.

It made me smile.

Looking back, I can see that although my work has changed over the years, what matters to me hasn’t.

It’s never been about getting the pose right. It’s always been about creating space for people to pause, reconnect with themselves, have a laugh, rest and enjoy being together.

As I get ready for my next retreat, this feels like a lovely reminder of why I started leading them in the first place.

Who knew that nearly 10 years later I’d still be doing something I love. ❤️

As publication day gets closer, I’ve been thinking about the journey that led to Demystifying Yoga.

This book has been shaped by so many people, conversations and experiences over the years.

It all started with a conversation.
Thank you, Beryl St James, for asking a question that stayed with me and inspired me to write this book.

I’m so grateful to Fearne Cotton Fearne for writing the foreword, to my editor, Sarah Hamlin , for championing this book from the very beginning, to Aggie Stewart, my copy editor, who helped me say what I wanted to say while kindly removing all my repetitions and there were a lot, and to everyone at Singing Dragon for helping bring this book to life.

A huge thank you as well to:

Ram Banerjee World Yoga Festival
Venus David-Otoin Venus
Paul Fox YIHA - Yoga in Healthcare Alliance
Dr Gail Parker Gail Parker
Jivana Heyman Jivana Heyman
Heather Mason THE MINDED INSTITUTE
Michelle Pernetta Fierce Grace Yoga
Rodrigo Souza Rodrigo Souza | Adaptive & Accessible Yoga Teacher
Lou Thomas Lou Thomas 🇵🇸🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Yoga, Massage, Community

I’d also like to thank everyone who completed my survey, came to my classes, attended my offerings, asked questions, shared their experiences and trusted me with their stories.
Many of you challenged me to think differently about how we make yoga more accessible, and this book is better because of it.

Every conversation helped shape this book.

One thing I didn’t fully appreciate until going through this process is just how important pre-orders are.

They help publishers and booksellers see that there’s an appetite for books like this, and they help a book reach more people.

So, if you’ve already pre-ordered Demystifying Yoga, thank you. It means more than you know.

If you’ve been thinking about pre-ordering, I’d be so grateful if you did.
Every pre-order helps this book reach someone who may have thought yoga wasn’t for them.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I can’t wait to share

Demystifying Yoga with you on 21 August. ❤️

This wasn’t a planned video.

I was walking to teach my class when I started thinking about one of the biggest reasons I wrote Demystifying Yoga.

Over the years, I’ve met so many people who were curious about yoga but believed it would conflict with their religion. Some have never stepped into a class because of that. I’ve even been turned down by venues because people believed yoga would conflict with their religion.
I completely understand why people ask the question.

That’s why I always encourage people to ask questions, speak to a teacher and experience it for themselves rather than relying on what they’ve heard.

In my classes, I’m not there to tell anyone what to believe. My role is to create a welcoming space where people can experience the benefits of yoga while honouring their own beliefs and values.

I’d love to know your thoughts. Have you ever ruled something out because of what you’d heard, only to discover the reality was different?

This is one of the conversations I explore in Demystifying Yoga, published on 21 August. The pre-order link is in my bio.

Today I attended my first event with the Modern Black Art to visit Losing a Home by Paul Majek , curated by Rita Majek .

When I first wandered around the exhibition, I was just taking everything in.

Then Paul and Rita started talking about the work, the inspiration behind it and what Losing a Home meant to them.

Something shifted.

I found myself looking again.
This time I started noticing faces in some of the pieces that I hadn’t seen before. It was fascinating how hearing the story behind the work completely changed what I was seeing.

When we were invited to share our reflections, I surprised myself by speaking up. I shared what I could see and loved hearing what other people had noticed too. It reminded me that we don’t all experience art in the same way, and that’s what makes conversations like these so special.
One of the things that really stayed with me was Paul about the body as home.

Anyone who knows me will know why that resonated.

So much of my work is about helping people reconnect with their bodies, so hearing that idea explored through art felt really special. It reminded me that some conversations are universal. They just find different ways of being expressed.

Afterwards, I had the opportunity to chat with Paul, bought a small print and asked him to sign the back. It now feels like more than a piece of art. It will always remind me of today’s conversations.

Thank you to the Black Modern Art Club for organising such a thoughtful event, and thank you Paul Majek and Rita Majek for your generosity, your insights and for creating a space that made me slow down, look again and leave inspired.

I have a feeling this was my first Black Modern Art Club event, but definitely not my last.

Today I can finally share my second book, Demystifying Yoga.

It will be published on 21 August.

This book came from years of conversations with people telling me yoga wasn't for them.
Some thought they weren't flexible enough. Others believed yoga simply wasn't for people like them. I've also had countless conversations with Black people who believed their religion meant yoga wasn't an option.

The more I heard people say yoga wasn't for them, the more I realised we needed to change the conversation around yoga.

Then something happened at the launch of my first book, Teaching Body Positive Yoga.

During the Q&A, someone asked how we help more Black people see that yoga is for them when, for many, religion feels like a barrier.

The next morning I woke up and rang Sarah Hamlin my editor. I didn't just have the idea for my next book, I had the title too.
Demystifying Yoga.

The title has never changed.
I didn't write this book to convince anyone they have to do yoga.

I wrote it because I felt this book needed to exist.

A book that answers the questions I've been asked over the years. A book that challenges the myths that stop so many people before they've even begun and helps people understand what yoga really is.
Because yoga is for everyBODY.

To everyone who has come to a class, asked a question, shared your story, supported my work or simply believed in me, thank you. This book wouldn't exist without you.

And thank you to Fearne Cotton for writing such a beautiful foreword. It means more than I can say.

If this book allows just one more person to experience yoga because they no longer believe it's "not for them", then it's done exactly what I hoped it would do.

Demystifying Yoga is published on 21 August.
