Golf is a skill based sport but what would you say if I recommended you increased your strength and conditioning to maximise your aquisition of said skill?🏌🏻‍♂️
It’s really simple, if you can increase your ceiling of capacity it will give you a greater foundation to apply said skill as it will reduce when you start to fatigue.
Fatigue changes how you move and also increases your risk of injury.
So, to be better conditioned allows you to expend less physical effort allowing to you to really embed the skill part.
It means you can practice and play at a higher level, for longer.
Who wouldn’t want that? 💪🏻

So you want to get stronger but not sure where to start?
The Isometric Mid Thigh Pull test is a safe and effective way to measure lower body force output for for any level - novice, advanced, athlete pro or amateur.
With any data it’s the interpretation of what it means and how to act on it rather than it just being a glossy metric because it looks cool.

Flexibility won’t cut it…
The less range of motion a joint has the more you will be forcing the motion into the direction you are moving = increased injury risk/overuse patterns.
Over time this will most likely cause you some troubles.
Flexibility alone is useless as it’s just passive range.
Mobility on the other hand is the ability to control those ranges of movement.
So tell me, at what point in life/activity/sport does a joint require to be passively stretched?
Simple biology tells us that you are unable to access ranges of motion you don’t have or use.

Programming pearl…
Training programmes lose focus when over complicated or filled with lots of ‘stuff’ but I get it, there is a need to feel like you have had a “workout” or that you get greater goals with a greater amount of exercises.
Sadly it’s the commercial fitness world which seems to be like this. Let’s face it, the “sexy” stuff sells and gets more likes.
Four areas to consider (although not limited to):
- do less
- do it with intent
- it’s all about the desired outcome
- don’t feel you need to be worn out after each session. This can lead to a decrease in performance and it a pretty dangerous approach.
