Siobhan Davies Studios is an artist-led organisation that advocates for dance and choreography as uniquely positioned for artistic and social change. We connect artists, neighbours, and audiences through investigative, collaborative, and creative activities at our Studios in South London and beyond. Founded in 1988 by pioneering choreographer Siobhan Davies, the organisation has been housed in its

RIBA award-winning studios since 2006 and under the co-Artistic Directorship of Annie Pui Ling Lok and Kat Bridge as of 2021.

Foundation in Africanistic Movement with Caroline Muraldo.

The aim of this unique class is to bridge the gap of physical understanding between European dance and dances of African heritage. This is done by teaching the basic movement characteristics that allow for the authentic ex*****on of any dance forms of African heritage.

💆🏽‍♂️ Join Ben Ash () for a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy session.

This is a gentle yet profound way of working with the whole person through light, respectful touch— suitable people of all ages and at many different stages of life.

During a session, the therapist makes light contact with the client and listens with an attentive, non-judgmental presence. Through their hands, they sense the subtle, tide-like rhythms known as primary respiration, as well as patterns of tension, health, and vitality within the craniosacral system.

💫 Akeim Toussaint Buck is back with To Move Together this autumn.

A space to dance, learn and grow together.

These sessions will be powered by two strands of Akeim’s practice:

🌄 Earthflow is the focus of moving from the central line/core of the body all whilst working with the malleable and adaptive abilities of our joints. The pursuit of this sensation is driven by set exercises and improvisation tasks, where a numerous of movement disciplines are utilised: Capoeira, Caribbean Dance, Release Technique, Graham Technique and more.

🎶 Beatmotion utilises the voice to explore movement quality, musicality and intentional improvisation.

Classes are always accompanied by live music and participants are encouraged to stay active and engaged through their own creative aliveness in the space.

This is an open level invitation. For beginners it’s a stroll into the unknown held together with foundations and for intermediates/pros it is a chance to sharpen your foundational skills and train as part of a community.

🌕 Join us to celebrate the Autumn Moon Festival this September.

In many communities this is a day of reunion and a chance to gather and mark the changing of the season with others. Come alone, or with friends and (chosen) family – everyone is welcome!

🔥 We’ll start in the late afternoon with an artist-led craft workshop which will end in a simple parade/procession of the crafts we’ve made together. Then, as the sun begins to come down, we’ll turn on our lights, get the fire pit going and put on some music.

We’ll be running a reasonably priced bar, plus there’ll also be hot food available for purchase.

Tali is a South East London born, raised and based creative, with over 20 years’ industry experience as a performer, teacher and choreographer. Her movement style is a blend of her training in street styles and contemporary, with leanings towards gesture and pedestrian movement. She is also one of the five artist from Living Image - Chapter 1.

📣 Re-making/Breaking traditions is returning this Autumn.

Facilitated by SDS’ Co-artistic director Annie Pui Ling Lok, Re-making/Breaing is is a space to explore how rituals of cultural tradition can/not be translated into rituals of performance.

💎 These sessions has been conceived by Artistic Director of New Earth Theatre Ailin Conant and SDS’ Co-artistic director Annie Pui Ling Lok taking as a starting point shared questions around:
- what traditions/rituals sit with me and seep into my practice?
- what can power and agency over cultural heritage look like?
- can respect and irreverence sit side by side?
- how do/can we value the fragmented memories and fractured knowledge of cross-cultural nomads, third-culture kids, 2nd and 3rd generations (etc.)?

🌟 This is a space exclusively for artists of BPOC/ global majority who are already with their own ideas, questions and existing practices. We are inviting free participation through a short application form in either audio or text.
