I’m sharing this not only as a coach, but as a woman navigating this stage of life myself.
There is so much negativity surrounding perimenopause and menopause. We hear that our metabolism will slow down, weight gain is inevitable, our bodies will become weaker and our best years are somehow behind us.
And when we hear these messages often enough, it is easy to start believing them.
I’m not pretending that menopause is always easy. Our bodies and brains go through genuine changes, and some women experience symptoms that significantly affect their energy, sleep, mood, confidence and everyday life. These changes can also influence our appetite, activity, recovery and muscle mass—all of which play a part in our metabolic health.
But that is not the same as our metabolism being broken. And change does not mean that we are broken.
Research suggests that the brain adapts throughout this transition and gradually establishes a new normal. For some women, life after menopause may also bring greater emotional stability, confidence and clarity.
Our bodies remain responsive too. We can still build strength, preserve muscle, support our bones, improve our fitness and positively influence our metabolic health.
We don’t need perfection or an extreme menopause “fix.” We need to keep returning to the fundamentals:
• Progressive resistance training
• Balanced nutrition and adequate protein
• Daily movement
• Good hydration
• Quality sleep
• Stress management
• The right professional and social support
I’m working on these things alongside you. I don’t always get everything right, either—but I know how powerful these basics can be when we practise them consistently over time.
I’m choosing not to see menopause as the beginning of decline. I see it as an opportunity to understand my body better, give it what it needs and invest in the next chapter of my health.
We are not broken. Our bodies are adapting—and with the right tools and support, we can continue to become stronger, healthier and more confident.
