International Lawn Tennis Club of Great Britain The IC of GB was founded on 26 November 1924 and was originally formed of players who had represented their country in international team competition.

To promote, by social union and match-play, good fellowship among players who, as members of touring tennis teams, have represented their country abroad, or who are or have been active in international competition in any age category. Other nations followed suit and in 1947 the Council of International Lawn Tennis Clubs was established. Today the IC Council represents ICs from 40 countries and the

purpose of all International Clubs remains the promotion of international goodwill and sportsmanship through competitive tennis.

On Wednesday 8th July, the IC of GB were delighted to present the Sportsmanship Award to Sonay Kartal at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Britain’s No. 2 and a Wimbledon fourth-round competitor in 2025, Sonay embodies everything this award stands for - competing with grace and humility. The IC of GB is honoured to recognise not just an outstanding tennis player, but an outstanding ambassador for the sport.

We wish Sonay a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the grass next year 🌿

The IC of GB returned to Fenner’s grass for the annual fixture against Cambridge University, hoping to repeat last year’s result. Cambridge had other ideas, edging a highly competitive and thoroughly enjoyable day’s tennis 5-4 in a match that could so easily have gone GB’s way. The team of Rob Leck, Simon Bramwell, Jamie Crowfoot, David Culshaw, Rob Blythe, Marcus Thompson and Mike Shaw gave a great account of themselves throughout.

The singles provided plenty of early highlights, with Jamie Crowfoot racing through 6-0, 6-1 and Rob Blythe following close behind with a 6-3, 6-1 win. After David Culshaw went down at 4, the remaining matches went deep, with slim margins throughout. Mike Shaw went the full distance at number one before going down 7-6 in the third, while Marcus Thompson and Simon Bramwell both fought through gripping, lengthy battles at 5 and 6, narrowly missing out 7-6 in the third and 10-8 in a championship tiebreak respectively. 🎾

The doubles briefly steadied the ship, with Mike Shaw and Rob Leck winning comfortably 6-3, 6-1, and Simon Bramwell and Rob Blythe taking their chances to win 6-4, 6-4. It wasn’t quite enough to claw back the tie, with three lost third-set tiebreaks proving the difference on the day.

Thanks go to Rob Blythe for captaining the team so well throughout, and to Aneish Sawney and the entire Cambridge team for their excellent organisation and warm hospitality. Thanks also to skipper Peter Harding for his constant encouragement from the sidelines.

A narrow defeat, but a cracking day’s tennis and a fixture the IC of GB will be itching to put right next year! 🎾🎾🎾

📍 ICLTK, Prague (Jiří Medonos Cup by Deltroit) 🇨🇿🇬🇧

The IC of GB headed to Prague for the Jiří Medonos Cup, 10-14 June 2026 — and despite several rainy days, nothing could dampen the spirits of this small but mighty team. Dom Hemy, Andy Hutchinson, Maia McCallister, Sue Webb and Sue Bartlett recorded a resounding win over the other seven nations represented, with games totalled across two days of play (teammates on day one, mixed nationalities on day two) to finish: GB 145, France 115, Mexico 114, Spain 111, followed by Ireland, Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Belgium. Thanks go to Sue Bartlett for captaining the team so brilliantly throughout. 🏆

Play took place on the beautiful red clay of the I.CLTK, the Czech Republic’s National Training Centre, with a tour of the impressive facilities courtesy of sport manager Petr Savrda. Huge thanks to the IC of the Czech Republic for their outstanding hospitality and organisation, with Match Captain Honza Michalek leading admirably through the tricky weather, ably supported by long-time President Helena Sukova and current Czech IC President Frantisek Stejskal.

The Official Dinner was held at the stunning Kaiserstein Palace, where Belgium and Luxembourg’s captains were awarded honorary membership of the IC of Czech Republic for their first appearance at the event. Guests enjoyed entertaining anecdotes from 1973 Wimbledon Champion Jan Kodeš before the rooftop terrace opened to showcase Prague Castle lit up at night. 🌃

The weekend continued with a tour of Prague Castle and the Wallenstein Palace Gardens (peacocks included), plenty of wonderful Czech and Asian cuisine, and a stroll past the famous Astronomical Clock. Rainy spells courtside even gave rise to a competitive round of Contract Whisk between matches!

A brilliant first IC appearance for both Dom and Maia, and a fantastic event supported throughout by Heather Hutchinson, David and Fiona Lees. As ever, hands across the net and friendship across the ocean — Velké díky Czechia y Praha, and to the IC of GB for another wonderful trip! 🎾🎾🎾

The IC of GB travelled to Paris to take on the IC of France — and after beating the Spanish on clay earlier in the season, made it back-to-back clay wins against the French too! Thanks go to James Marsalek for the initial arrangements and team selection.

With the IC of GB founded in 1924 and the IC of France following in 1929, this fixture holds the title of the longest-standing match in the IC calendar, and remains one of the most popular thanks to its open-age format. The competitiveness was clear throughout, even with a few generational gaps across the order of play — including one mix-up that saw Jo Shepherd briefly drawn against Jacques Hervet after the hosts mistook “Jo” for “Joe”! 😅

The matches were played in glorious sunshine and the best of spirits, capped off with a visit to Roland Garros and the IC of France’s cocktail party on the Sunday. Huge thanks to hosts Caroline, Patrice, Alain, Gail and Christophe for their months of planning and for arranging the wonderful venue, and to Chantal for organising the Roland Garros visit and cocktail party.

The final result favoured the IC of GB, with the scoreline landing at either 8-3, 7-4 or 7.5-3.5 depending on how the mixed rubber is counted! Thanks also to Anne Clark for captaining the team so well throughout. As one of the oldest fixtures in both IC calendars, the continued support and friendship between the two nations remains as strong as ever. 🎾🎾🎾

The International Club of Ireland welcomed the International Club of Great Britain to Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club on 30th May for a memorable day of tennis, camaraderie, and celebration of the values that make International Club fixtures so special.

With the Irish weather determined to play its part, the players experienced just about every condition imaginable throughout the day. Sunshine, wind, and showers all made appearances, but neither the elements nor the changing conditions could dampen the enthusiasm on court. Every match was fiercely contested, played in excellent spirit, and showcased the competitive yet friendly ethos that lies at the heart of International Club tennis.

While the scoreline ultimately favoured the hosts, it did not tell the full story of a day filled with hard fought rallies, closely contested sets, and plenty of entertaining tennis. Ireland made the most of home advantage and, buoyed by strong performances across the board, secured a convincing 6.5 to 0.5 victory.

As is often the case with International Club matches, the tennis was only part of the story. Following the action on court, both teams came together for a fantastic dinner and an evening in Dublin that will live long in the memory. Stories were shared, friendships strengthened, and as the night progressed, a number of increasingly dubious dance moves were unveiled. Fortunately, no official record of these performances exists!

A huge thanks goes to the Irish team and everyone at Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club for their outstanding hospitality throughout the visit. The warm welcome, excellent organisation, and generosity shown to the Great Britain team were greatly appreciated by all.

Another big thanks to Lewis Barnes for captaining the IC of GB side. We look forward to renewing this wonderful fixture next summer and returning the favour when we welcome our Irish friends across the water once again. 🎾🎾🎾

🎾 IC of GB vs AELTC | Sunday 24th May 2026

The International Club of Great Britain was warmly welcomed by John Lawler to the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the 71st staging of this long-standing and cherished fixture.

The day began with tea, coffee and a delicious array of pastries on the balcony, giving players and guests the opportunity to enjoy the stunning surroundings before taking to the courts.

Play began in glorious sunshine on immaculate Championship courts. The IC of GB fought extremely hard throughout — our open men’s and ladies’ pairs produced some sensational tennis, but unfortunately both lost closely contested championship tie-breaks. Despite the soaring temperatures, the IC continued to battle hard in the second round. Our senior pairs fought gallantly, while Sophie, Rob, Holly and Piers kept themselves hydrated and refused to give up without a fight — both matches going to another two nail-biting champs tie-breaks. The final score of 8-0 to the AELTC did not reflect or do justice to the incredible standard of tennis played throughout the day.

After cooling down, the teams enjoyed a gorgeous glass of cold champagne on the balcony before a delicious buffet supper brought the match to a close.

The IC of GB are privileged and honoured to be invited to play at the All England, and extend sincere thanks to the AELTC for their warm hospitality and for continuing a tradition that remains one of the highlights of the International Club calendar. A huge thanks must also go to our captain Karen Hunter for all her impeccable organisation and leadership as always 🌿

The IC of GB Ladies enjoyed a memorable day on the grass courts at Fenner’s in Cambridge on Saturday 9 May, taking on the Oxbridge Ladies.

At this stage of the season, the opportunity to play on such excellent grass courts felt incredibly special. The courts played beautifully throughout the day and the team were extremely well looked after by our hosts.

The team of Georgie Axon, Jane Fennelly, Sophie Drakeford Lewis, Georgia Craven, Livvy Tomkins and Liv Parsons delivered outstanding performances across the board, completing a clean sweep of both the singles and doubles rubbers. Special mention to Georgia Craven for the comeback of the day — recovering from 1-6, 3-5, 0-40 down to win her singles match 1-6, 7-5, 10-5 in remarkable fashion. 👏

While the final result favoured the IC of GB Ladies, the contest itself was fiercely competitive throughout and much closer than the score alone suggests — a brilliant day of grass court tennis in Cambridge.

A big thank you to Liv Parsons for stepping in at short notice and contributing so strongly to the result, the Oxbridge Ladies for their superb hosting and excellent grass courts, and our match captain Laura Morrill for all her fantastic organisation. The IC of GB travelled to the beautiful coastal town of Llafranc for a first-ever fixture against the IC of Spain — a trip organised following an initial conversation between Anne Clark and Santi Tintoré Belil. Ten players made the journey: Nigel Barker, Mike Carroll, Anne Clark, Ashley Compton Dando, Julie Fox, Peter Harding (Captain), Sue Harding, Rosie Naunton Morgan, Kim Reed and Alan Roberts.

Play took place at the excellent Club de Tennis Llafranc across 9–11 April, with the IC of Spain fielding a strong and distinguished side. When Ashley Compton Dando sustained an Achilles injury early in his first match, Peter Reed stepped in at short notice and produced some excellent tennis throughout.

The IC of GB led 5–3 after day one before winning four of the five remaining matches on day two, securing an overall 9–4 victory. A friendly mixed session with the Spanish players between rounds gave both teams the chance to exchange notes on clay court tennis — proving useful preparation for the final day. 🎾

Off court, the team enjoyed warm hospitality from their hosts, including a welcome cocktail party and evenings spent at the beachside restaurants of Llafranc. Members of the IC of Spain’s Honorary Organising Committee were presented with Centenary ties and IC of GB pens at the official lunch.

In recognition of his outstanding organisation of the fixture, Santi Tintoré Belil was awarded Honorary Membership of the IC of GB — presented by Anne Clark following the official lunch. In a wonderful reciprocal gesture, Captain Peter Harding was awarded Honorary Membership of the IC of Spain. Huge thanks to Santi, the Club de Tennis Llafranc and all involved for a memorable trip. 🎾🎾🎾​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
