Mumming is INTENSE.

I was listening to Mother kind podcast the other day and someone (I can't remember the episode) mentioned how as parents, we're always on alert.

We have to be aware of potential risks for our children, attending to their needs, thinking about the next thing and even when they (or even we) sleep, we're still not really fully resting in case they wake up and need us.

Basically, we're constantly "on" which results in being in fight or flight.

It's not great for our nervous systems, which is probably why I (and probably most parents) feel PRETTY FRAZZLED.

This point in the podcast really stuck with me.
It made me think about how taking time out solo is so important.
Even if the girls are happily napping in the pram, it's more beneficial to take that walk without them.

We need to fully switch off.

To breathe.

Like really breathe.

And return home a better and more regulated parent.

So, here's to taking more walks all by myself πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Happy One Month to Florence & Peggy πŸ’•

(Definitely calling this my surviving not thriving era!
That said, it's not twice as hard as having one newborn, maybe 75% extra so, for that I'm pleasantly surprised)

Such a brilliant day and great effort to everyone who turned up.
I also know that quite a few of you have a lot more to give on the assault bike on classes, given the performance in the first race πŸ‘€

This is 3️⃣4️⃣.
Another year older, a few more laughter (and frown lines) and feeling a whole lot of love. And yes, I'm still having to do the maths to work out how old I am whenever someone asks.

Every birthday feels like a new year for me. Reflecting on last year's thoughts, this year was all about working on what we've got after a year of trying to grow from a seed.
They say 3 is a magic number, and last year was pretty magical.
Building out the business, working on family time and the overall work/life blend (because it's definitely not a balance), plus being able to afford having Olive in nursery an extra day a week.
The slight change in plans in taking the cafe over earlier meant that holidays and time off took a bit of a hit this year, however, we're coming out the other side of the chaos into a fully functioning business.

34 looks set to be a bit of an interesting year, but also one that's forcing me to step outside of my comfort zone.

In short, for me, 34 is about being a bit more of a grown up.
I had this conversation with they other day. There's a lot of imposter syndrome at the idea of the future as a business owner and what I should be doing in my day-to-day.
The idea of business growth.
Where do we want to scale to?
What are the big plans?
Do we want to be ambitious or have an easier life?

Truth be told, I was fairly junior when I left my career in advertising, and then started from scratch working as a PT for myself. I've never been at that "senior level" so, it all feels a bit unknown on what that role and future looks like.

That said, it evolves as we go along and so far the process has worked (minus a few bumps along the way, which are to be expected)

Thanks for listening to my rather random birthday reflection ramble...

July Dump.

M.F.T. ready
Modified Farmer Training or to some of you, Mother f***ing Tractor...

We're putting the farm back into fitness with our new class at .

About 6 weeks ago, I sat down with and explained that we get a lot of men asking to join classes at , and that it was about time to fill this demand by adding another mixed gender class to the timetable.

It's a tricky thing to do, as the gym is female focused and the female energy is so important.
It's what's built the community, what gives women a safe space to grow stronger and be able to exercise at any stage of life.
The female focus underpins the success of the studio to date.

We needed to take a way of training that would bring everyone together, that would be fun and that wouldn't be linked to the usual testosterzone image that comes with the weights area in the gym.

I really believe that M.F.T has hit the brief.
Held in the Hangar and probably a new-ish style of training for most.

So, here's to Getting Your Farmer On at 🚜🚜🚜

(Our launch class is sold out, but booking is live from w/c 31st July at thebarnkt9.com)

This age is HARD.
But equally, it's absolutely incredible.

The full sentences.
The tantrums on the sun going behind a cloud, the fact her socks aren't pulled up.
The opinions on clothes, food, literally anything.
The potty training.
The Whys (so many!)
The 'Thank Yous' that are said from genuine appreciation.
Trying to be a 'gentle parent' and wondering if I can raise my voice to actually be heard.

The tiny person that's growing up in front of my very eyes.

This age is hard, but good things never come easy, right?

Photo dump from trip to , because getting out of the house is always a good idea!

The other day on a walk with Olive, we saw a man going for a run and I pointed out how he was doing exercise.

Olive turned to me and said,
"No mummy, that's not exercise. He's not doing weights"

It made me laugh.

It also made me realise that Olive is growing up seeing lifting weights as a normal thing for women to do as exercise.

(It also got me thinking that maybe I should get back into running...)

But seriously though, how wonderful is it that she'll hopefully be part of a generation of women who will be going into old age with less issues thanks to the strong bodies they've created

(Fyi, apparently Yoga is also exercise given I do that too.

6️⃣ years of

I used to have a little celebration for every work anniversary as I feel it's important to celebrate your achievements.

(Celebration still pending as I'm currently writing this 6 weeks late and March has been a whirlwind!)

I guess, like for most people, 3 of those 6 years have just disappeared into a blur. This is all thanks to two being the pandemic, followed by the fastest year ever as "the world got back to normal".

6 years ago, I made the decision to hand in my notice at , a year after qualifying as a PT.

In those 12 months prior, I trained a few clients before/after work to build up confidence, but the reality for me was that I had to just jump so I was forced into making a new career path work.

I could go on about why I changed careers but that's already in a blog post on my website somewhere.

It's crazy to think that at school we're taught to choose a career that we think we'll like, yet the person we are at 16-18 is very different from the person I am now.

Truth be told though, I wouldn't be where I am now had I not taken those steps/path I did.
I was lucky enough to have as my business coach almost 4 years ago. I remember she said to me about how at the time, a lot of what we do doesn't make sense, but looking back, the dots connect.

πŸ’ The stint in advertising.
πŸ«‚ The people I've met: Charlie, friends, my team at , the people who supported and inspired me, faces who seemed to pop up again further down the line with a role and more.
🀯 The curve balls thrown my way.
πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ The opportunities that didn't seem like them at time.
πŸ«’ The timing of Olive.
πŸ₯Ί How lockdown made me feel as a first time mum.

The list could go on.

For now, I'm incredibly grateful that the path I've chosen seems to be leading somewhere (despite quite a few uphill hikes to get there!)

to first 12 months of a girl starting out as a personal trainer back in March 2017. A huge thank you to everyone who entrusted me with their fitness journey to help me with mine

This week in classes, I've felt so good.

Although I'm not lifting as much or moving as fast as I did pre Olive, I felt stronger than I have done before.

And my training is different to what is was previously. I'm not working to a strict programme, just similar movement patterns week on week with the classes at .

In my head, it's probably because my weekly training sessions are now more in the 2-3 strength based and then 1 conditioning (if I've done 2 of the former).

Less is definitely more when it comes to exercise as you're well rested which means you can get more from a session.

That said, it could also be a good day πŸ˜‚

♀️ It could be the time of my cycle - although probably not that as I'm heading towards the end

πŸ’€ It could be an almost full night's sleep - just the 5am wake up of a small dictator demanding babyccino & marshmallows, who thankfully went back to sleep)

🌸 It could be the fact it's spring! Who else was loving that burst of sunshine today?

😫 It could be that I've finally made it out the other side of the bout of conjunctivitis which floored me

Whatever it is, I'm loving exercising for feeling good and just doing what I can, when I can.

Quite a world away from the ridiculous obsession with all the energy depleting sessions a week!

So that's the story behind camping, the gym, food & drink.

Now it's time for the story behind events (which will explain this random shot of 's trainers)

After ending the year with , we thought we'd take it back to how on earth our journey with events has ended up with PoorBoys being here.

Randomly, it started with Em's leopard print trainers.

She was wearing them on (one of her many) visits to and got chatting to the owner Nick, who had seen her tag them on instagram from a previous visit.

Nick then came to check out in our very early days of 2020 and for a chat

Nick at then introduced us to Daniel Britten]

Daniel Britten] was the incredible guy behind our first pop-up restaurant, Fire & Feast in the lockdown days with Olive's Tipi

It was so popular that we did another one, Fire & Feast II, in October 2021

gave us a call after seeing the Deep South Vibes of the pop-up and wanted to chat

A few months later, the first pop-up happened.

And then a year later, it happened again!

So, that's the story behind this random pair (of fabulous) leopard print trainers
