WorldSkills UK

WorldSkills UK We are an independent charity and a partnership between employers, education and governments.

Together, we are using international best practice to raise standards in apprenticeships and technical education so more young people and employers succeed. We’re a proud member of WorldSkills, a global movement of over 80 countries. WorldSkills supports young people across the world via competitions-based training, assessment and benchmarking, with members’ national teams ultimately testing their

ability to achieve world-class standards in the biennial ‘skills olympics’. The insights we gain from training as part of this global network helps us raise standards across the UK. We inspire young people, whatever their background, to choose high-quality apprenticeships and technical education as a prestigious career route. We develop educators, by sharing international best practice, to deliver high-quality training and assessment. We innovate to help employers by benchmarking with skills systems from across the world to inform policy and practice, ensuring high-quality skills and boosting the UK economy.

We’re pleased to announce that the WorldSkills UK National Finals will be coming to London in 2027 and 2028!

Delivered in partnership with the Mayor of London, the Finals will be the capital’s biggest celebration of skills since WorldSkills London 2011.

Capital City College (Mosaic@Soho), Waltham Forest College and LSEC Bromley have been named as the first host venues.

The Finals will bring together talented apprentices and students from across the UK to compete in more than 40 skills, spanning engineering and manufacturing, digital, health, hospitality and the built environment.

Bringing the National Finals into colleges and communities across the capital will give thousands of young people the opportunity to see skills excellence in action and be inspired by the careers that technical education and apprenticeships can unlock.

The WorldSkills UK National Finals will officially move to London in November, following this year’s Finals in South Wales, which has hosted the event since 2025.

Emily’s journey to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

What started with Emily deciding to “give it a go” has taken her from an apprenticeship at Toyota Manufacturing UK to representing Team UK on the world stage.

After leaving university during her first year in search of a more hands-on way to learn, Emily found her path through an apprenticeship. She is now a qualified Mechatronics Maintenance Technician and is preparing to compete alongside her teammate and now best friend, Liz, in Shanghai.

Her WorldSkills journey has helped her develop her technical skills, problem-solving abilities and, most importantly, her confidence. “I never would have thought I could do it, but I’ve been selected for Team UK now. If you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know.”
