Tokei Judo Club

Tokei Judo Club The Tokei Centre was formed in 1975 primarily as a Martial Arts centre for the local community originally offering Judo and Karate classes to the local youth.

Since then, the centre has moved location several times and in the process developed into London's leading centre for Martial Arts, it is one of the few purpose built Martial Arts centres in the country. The centre is run by martial artists and fitness experts all highly qualified in their field. Ten years ago we incorporated a fully equipped gymnasium with a full compliment of cardio vascular and

resistance machines, free weights and plenty of space for non equipment exercises. Along with this and over a period of time we have introduced a vast range of lunchtime 'fitness' classes from Pilates, Yoga, Body Blitz, Boxing and more......

We have some of the very best martial arts instructors on hand every day. Many of our instructors have national and international coaching experience and a high proportion of these instructors have themselves competed and been successful in competitions at the very highest level. They are now offering their experience to a new generation of martial artists that are destined to be the best in their chosen discipline. In 2004 several members of our Olympic freestyle wrestling club represented their respective countries in the Olympics. We often host the British Judo team; our ladies judo has had representatives at major National and International competitions. We would not want you to read this and think that this is a centre dedicated to crash, bang, wallop, full of blokes with broken noses Timeout Magazine described us in these terms:

"….the place is refreshingly free of machismo and elitism. Beginners are welcome and there are plenty of female and junior members." Because the Tokei is not an organization aimed at making money, we are in the enviable position of being able to offer all our activities at affordable and competitive rates. A question we are always being asked is what does'Tokei' mean? Tokei is Japanese for Fighting Cockerel, a reference to one of our original sponsors. You have visited our web site, now come along and see us in person; you won't be disappointed.

Toby initiated a bit of a review of the Tokei on-line presence as we have changed a bit; its now Judo and BJJ obviously.

Its proved a bit tricky and bureaucratic to change stuff and move stuff over. We have therefore created a new page and will start posting to 'Tokei Judo and BJJ' from now.

I will try to delete the Facebook Group and we will suspend / archive the page in due course.

If you liked / followed 'Tokei Judo Club' please can you now switch to 'Tokei Judo and BJJ' and review us etc...?

If you want to be able to post to this just let Toby know.

Thanks

A little video of Simon Tutton (black gi) who is one of the BJJ instructors at a recent BJJ competetion.
A nice little yoko tome nage to start with, but Simon was giving away a fair bit of weight and after a couple of resets unfortunately Simon was caught with a strangle. So I would suggest you just watch the first 30 seconds......... :-)

Little bit of nage komi onto the crash mats. Being able to link them together in a line does give a bit more space too which was handy today.

A decent turnout on a sweaty day but a record for the post judo and bjj banter afterwards in the cafe. Jimmy James had to go and as I took the pic, that makes 15 of us in Costa. Even too big for the big table....

BJJ tonight with Vernon. If you don't notice anything different in picture 1 then picture 2 makes it a bit more obvious....

New crash mats out of their wrapping today.

They didn't look too thick and there was a bit of grumbling with the big guys / older players wanting to use the old super thick ones.
It worked out OK though, and we could link them together in a line too so we had 5 lines not three.

Today it was a little combination to christen them with a change of direction technique. Ippon eri seoi nage to o soto gari.

Thursday night BJJ with Vernon, it was a bit like a sauna in there even with the door open. Certainly a good sweat and a couple of great drills before some sparing to finish us off. It's a shame this little clip did not catch more or Vernon and Pete.
