Meet the Hammerhead Shark, an unmistakable group of sharks from the family Sphyrnidae, found in warm coastal waters around the world.

Their unusual hammer-shaped head is known as a cephalofoil. Far from being just for show, it gives them a wider field of vision and spreads their sensory organs across a larger area, helping them detect movement and electrical signals hidden beneath the sand. 🔨

🐟 Hammerheads feed on fish, squid, crustaceans and even other sharks. Stingrays are a particular favourite, and their wide heads can help pin rays against the seabed while they take a bite.

They can be found around coral reefs, coastlines and open ocean habitats. While many sharks are solitary, some hammerhead species gather in spectacular schools containing dozens or even hundreds of individuals.

Size varies greatly between species, but the Great Hammerhead is the largest and can grow to around six metres long. Look out for the tall dorsal fin, streamlined body and, of course, that instantly recognisable head. 🌊

Despite their intimidating appearance, Hammerheads are generally cautious around divers. Sadly, many species face serious threats from fishing and the shark fin trade, making their protection incredibly important.

Have you ever spotted a Hammerhead Shark on a dive? Let us know where! 🤿

The PADI Open Water Diver course is your first step into scuba diving. With no previous experience needed, you'll learn everything you need to become a safe, confident diver and earn a certification that's recognised worldwide.

The course begins with PADI eLearning, which you complete at your own pace before joining us for pool sessions, where you'll learn the essential scuba skills and take your very first breaths underwater. Once you're feeling confident, you'll put those skills into practice over four open water dives at Wraysbury Lake, guided by one of our experienced PADI Instructors.

At Aquanaut, we keep our class sizes small, take the time to teach every skill properly, and focus on creating confident divers, not just handing out certifications.

Pop into the shop or get in touch to find out more. We'd love to help you start your diving journey.

⚓ The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty is perfect for divers who want to safely explore sunken ships, aircraft and other underwater structures. 🌊 Wrecks offer a fascinating glimpse into history while also becoming thriving artificial reefs, attracting an incredible variety of marine life. 🪸🐠

🌍 From purpose-sunk ships to historic wrecks reclaimed by the sea, wreck diving offers a unique blend of adventure, history and marine life. This course gives you the skills and confidence to explore these incredible underwater sites safely.

📚 Before your dives, you'll complete the PADI eLearning at your own pace. Then, over four training dives across two days 🤿, you'll learn how to safely navigate around wrecks, map a site, identify hazards and, under the guidance of your PADI Instructor, plan and carry out limited wreck pe*******on using specialist techniques.

🚨Challenge yourself and become a diver others can rely on. The PADI Rescue Diver course develops the confidence, awareness and practical skills to recognise problems early and respond effectively.

📚 Through PADI eLearning, pool sessions and realistic open water rescue scenarios, you'll practise everything from self-rescue, assisting tired or panicked divers and managing emergency situations, to locating missing divers and rescuing an unresponsive diver. Every scenario is designed to build your confidence through practical experience in a fun, supportive environment.

🌊 By the end of the course, you'll be a more aware, capable and confident diver, with stronger situational awareness, better problem-solving skills and the ability to look after both yourself and your dive buddies.

🎓 Your PADI Rescue Diver certification is recognised worldwide and is an essential step towards PADI Divemaster and other professional-level training. It also demonstrates to dive centres around the world that you've developed advanced safety, rescue and dive management skills.

💙 At Aquanaut, we keep our class sizes small, focus on real confidence rather than simply passing a course, and make sure every student feels supported from start to finish.

Just a friendly reminder that tonight is the first evening of our Head Watersports Event, taking place at the K&E Clubhouse.

We’ll be joined by representatives from Aqualung and Apeks for an in‑depth talk about the recent changes within the brands — including what went wrong, how they’ve rebuilt and what the future looks like.

This evening will include:
• A transparent look at the challenges the brands faced
• Insight into the improvements and restructuring now in place
• A look ahead at new developments and future plans
• An open Q&A session where you can ask anything

It’s a rare opportunity to hear directly from the people behind the equipment we rely on. We look forward to seeing you there tonight.
