Today is World Oceans Day, a global celebration of the waters that sustain life on Earth.

For divers, the ocean is more than a destination - it’s a place of connection, discovery and responsibility. Every time we enter the water, we have the chance to protect the environments we love.

Ways divers can make a positive impact:
• Maintain good buoyancy to avoid damaging reefs
• Choose reef‑safe sunscreen and eco‑friendly products
• Reduce single‑use plastics in daily life
• Support marine conservation charities
• Share knowledge and inspire others to care

Together, we can help keep our oceans healthy for future generations.

It’s World Reef Awareness Day, and a perfect moment to celebrate the incredible coral ecosystems that support so much marine life - and to reflect on how we, as divers, can help protect them.

Reefs are delicate, slow‑growing structures, and even the lightest accidental contact can cause long‑term damage. The good news is that divers have the power to make a huge positive impact simply by being mindful in the water.

Ways divers can protect reefs:
• Maintain controlled buoyancy to avoid accidental contact
• Keep fins lifted to prevent stirring sediment
• Move slowly and deliberately around coral structures
• Avoid touching or leaning on coral for balance
• Choose eco‑friendly sunscreen and gear

Every dive is an opportunity to protect the places we love. With good buoyancy and thoughtful habits, we can enjoy reefs up close while keeping them safe for the future.

What the course covers:
• Self‑rescue and stress management
• Assisting tired, panicked or unresponsive divers
• Search patterns and surface procedures
• Improved awareness, communication and teamwork

A fantastic next step for divers who want to grow their skills and become stronger, safer buddies.
