UCL Boat Club offers top class coaching and excellent facilities to everyone. Training involves rowing three times a week out of the University of London Boathouse in Chiswick, with the rest of the week’s training taking place in the UCL gym. Our coaching team is made up of our Director of Rowing, Tim Bailey; Paralympic bronze medal winning cox Alan “Woody” Sherman; established ex-Molesey rower an

d coach Matt Bromley; along with a number of brilliant volunteer coaches. People with previous experience can enter our Senior or Intermediate Squads. Their main aim will be to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta (HRR) and Henley Womens Regatta (HWR). In 2015 the men's 1st VIII qualified for The Temple Challenge Cup at HRR and the women's squad had three 4+ racing in the Senior and Academic categories. For those who have never tried their hand at the sport before, the Novice squads beckon. We place great importance in our novices and we aim to give you a solid foundation on which to build on as an oarsman.

Last but not least we have our Novice Women’s squad! Our captain Tori is excited to be welcoming you to the squad.

Aims for the squad:
- Make sure everyone actually enjoys rowing (revolutionary, I know)
- Help the girls survive winter training
- Smash BUCS and any other races we can get ourselves into
- Be the most present squad at every boat club social. Priorities.

Competitive aspirations:
- BUCS Regatta — the big one
- Local and regional races throughout the season
- A rowing camp to sharpen up
- Bonus goal: beating Kings at literally anything

Training:
- On the water 3x a week
- 1 erg session a week
- 1 campus circuit session
- Weights getting phased in as we go
- Sessions split between competitive and recreational — something for everyone

We are proud to present to you the Senior Women’s squad, captained by Cordelia! 🫶

Aims:
Nurture a supportive, fun and competitive environment that caters to all rowers whether you row for fun or competitively.

Competitive Aspirations:
Be able to field a competitive boat for national events such as WeHORR and BUCS Regatta, as well as local events. At the end of the year we aim to qualify for Women’s Henley and put out a boat for Henley Royal Regatta qualifiers.

Training:
We will have water sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and a double session on Saturday morning as well as one squad erg session a week along with training done individually or in smaller groups.

Today we’d like to introduce our lovely Coxswain’s squad! Taking over as this years Cox captain is Louis, here are some of his aims and training plans for this upcoming year…

Aims:
We want to build a squad of confident, well-trained coxes who know both the rules of the river and fastest line to take.

Aspirations:
Coxes should look forward to comps! It’s a chance for the whole boat to come together and put into practise what you’ve worked on. We’re aiming for a good bit of pot hunting as well as the excitement of competing in some of the biggest events in the country like Head of the River, Henley Women’s and Henley Royal (as well as international trips!)

Training:
From tideway code walkthroughs at the pub to pre-race briefings, we know that a confident cox is a speedy cox. Getting to know the beast that is the tideway is a priority in our cox training and we’ll make sure everyone gets to know it well through journeys along the tideway together to identify common training landmarks and pinch points.

Next up we have the Novice Men’s squad! Here to say a bit about their goals and training expectations for the upcoming year are Captain Teodor and VC Elliot:

1. Aims
- Build a committed, competitive and positive squad environment.
- Develop every rower throughout the season.
- Create a strong team culture where everyone pushes each other to improve.

2. Competitive Aspirations
- Build several strong, race-ready crews capable of competing at a high level for novice racing.
- Develop crews throughout the season, aiming to peak for our key races.
- Race with ambition and consistently challenge ourselves to move up the field.

3. Training
- Train consistently throughout the season (on and off the water) and make every session count.
- Develop strong technical foundations alongside fitness and race preparation.
- Create a training environment where everyone works hard, is accountable and pushes the squad forward.

Hope you’re all getting excited for term to start! But first some introductions are in order. Starting things off with the Senior Men’s squad, we have Senior Men’s captain Atticus Hitchings…

Key aims for the Senior Men’s squad:
- Qualify for Henley
- Compete competitively at various events throughout the year
- Building a good social atmosphere

Training schedule:
- We do 4 water sessions a week
- One on Monday one on Wednesday, and two on Saturday.
- Ergs on Tuesday
- Ut2+ gym Thursday and Friday

Marlow Regatta summary and results:

On Saturday our SM 8+ had great success at Marlow Regatta, winning the Tier 3 Student 8+ category and competing in the H final.

We’re excited to see what’s to come for their crew with Henley qualifiers coming up later this week.
