Phil is taking a group to Europe's deepest pool this October, and you're invited. Open to Basic Freedivers and above.

Club dive: Swanage, Sunday 2 August 🦑

We're heading down to Swanage this Sunday, and conditions are shaping up nicely. Water's sitting at a balmy 20°C (positively tropical for the UK), the forecast is sunny with light winds, and high water lands just before midday, which is perfect timing for slack tide.

Plan is to be in the water between 10:30 and 11:30 to catch the best of it. A 5mm wetsuit will do the job at these temperatures,

Expect tom pot blennies, wrasse, spider crabs and the usual pier characters. All levels welcome.

JUST LIKE BEES ─ Sharks need no introduction. Everyone has an opinion about them. But few people understand the consequences of losing them forever. Without sharks the oceans and their inhabitants will adapt and evolve in ways that could wipe out the familiar fish that we rely on for food. Without sharks the oceans could force a shift in the climate, prompting seasons to change around the world and for vital crops to fail. Without sharks the seas could become dominated by algae keeping people out of the oceans and ending tourism in coastal communities.

Just like bees, sharks are doing their thing and we all benefit.

This shark awareness day we’re not looking to make people to fall in love with sharks but we do need them to realise the importance of sharks and take an interest in protecting them … for everyone’s sake.

We're heading back to one of our favourite UK dive sites. Swanage Pier is packed with marine life — cuttlefish, seahorses, nudibranchs, lobster and more — all in just 8–12 metres of water right on the Jurassic Coast.

June is a busy one at Big Squid 🦑
This weekend we're off to Portland for two days of wreck and reef diving, and with any luck, the cuttlefish will put in an appearance.
Missed out? Spaces are still available on our next Portland trip, 11th and 12th July, suitable for all levels.
Pool nights this month: Clapham on Wednesday 17th and Dulwich on Sunday 28th. And if your kit needs a service before summer, now's the time.
