Manchester City and Barcelona have been given an extended opportunity to secure the services of RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo, as the deadline for triggering his release clause has been pushed back. The Spanish midfielder, who has been impressing at the ongoing European Championships with three goals and two assists, has caught the attention of several top clubs.
Olmo's contract with RB Leipzig reportedly includes a ยฃ50 million release clause, which was initially set to expire on July 15. However, the new deadline is now Saturday, July 20, following Spain's qualification for the Euro 2024 final.
Despite the extension and Olmo's impressive performances, Manchester City's interest in the player appears to have cooled. According to recent reports, the Premier League champions are not actively pursuing the 26-year-old attacking midfielder. This development contradicts earlier speculation from Spanish media suggesting an intensified push by City for Olmo's signature.
Barcelona, on the other hand, remains in the mix for Olmo's services. The Catalan club has long been linked with the former La Masia academy player and may view this extended deadline as an opportunity to bring him back to Spain.
As the new deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether either club will make a move for Olmo or if other suitors will emerge to trigger his release clause before it expires.
