The Coach: “ Why do you really want to be a Coach Alex?” Me: “Because I don’t want anyone else to have to feel like this”…
A couple of years ago I was about halfway through my Coach training, and and took a Sales job again to pay the bills.
By this time, I knew Coaching as a Career was for me, but bills are bills and I hadn’t started charging yet.
I was asked to go overseas to a big expo event which, for many people, would have been great!
But for me - waking around that venue, approaching exhibitors, pitching a product I didn’t care about and pretending to smile and enjoy it, it was a confirmation that I was in the wrong job. The thing was - I wouldn’t admit it to myself.
The event organisers had laid on free Coaching surgeries for attendees - just 20 minutes each time.
So, out of curiosity, I booked one.
I thought I was doing market research. I wanted to see how other Coaches coached.
But all it took was one powerful question.
I didn’t realise quite how unhappy I was.
In that moment - everything flooded out, and 3 minutes into that 20 minute session with a complete stranger, I was in tears.
But it really helped.
It moved me forward just enough. It gave me clarity and started to galvanise me to take action.
I wasn’t in that job very long after that.
So if you asked me why I do what I do, one of the reasons is to help people to feel in control and get unstuck.
And on this please do keep an eye out for your family, friends and colleagues who may be smiling and laughing externally, but inside there is pain that they won’t allow to be seen - sometimes even by themselves.
There is another way.
Sometimes all it takes is one powerful question.
And you can start to make changes if you want to.
I’m proof.
If I can do it, anyone can.
If you want to talk to me - just message me.
