🌟 Our OKD Star for May is Esme! ✨

Each month, we celebrate a dancer who reflects our values - not just in how they dance, but in how they show effort, focus, creativity, and joy in class.

Esme is a hugely valued member of her class and has really stood out recently for the positive contribution she makes every week.

She is always keen to join in discussions, share ideas, and engage with what we’re learning. Alongside this, she has been working hard towards her tap exam, approaching the challenge with focus and commitment while continuing to bring plenty of humour and personality to the studio.

What we especially appreciate about Esme is the balance she brings. She takes her dancing seriously and gives things her full attention, but she also helps make classes enjoyable for the people around her. Her positivity, enthusiasm, and willingness to get involved have a really positive impact on the group.

Esme is an important part of the class, and her teachers love having her in the studio.

Well done Esme, we’re really proud of you! 💜

🤔 Why do we do exams at OKD?

It’s important or us that dance exams are a way to boost a child’s confidence, rather than being competitive or scary.

At OKD, we use exams as a way to celebrate progress, build up self-belief, and practice overcoming challenges. It’s a great way to highlight just how far every child has come, just by showing up and working hard at class each week.

We partner with The Dance School Company, whose supportive approach and fresh syllabus brings out the best in every child.

📣 On Stage with OKD

🎪 This time last month our amazing jazz dancers had the exciting opportunity to perform under the big top at Revel Puck Circus.

At OKD, we love giving children opportunities to experience dance beyond their weekly classes - from end-of-term assemblies and watching weeks to our bi-annual show, workshops, and special performances like this one.

These experiences help children grow in so many ways: not just as dancers, but as confident, resilient and supportive young people 💛

Spend a Day with ✨Lily-Belle✨ OKD Holiday Workshop Edition

Join Lily-Belle as she takes you along for a real day at our Easter Workshop...from breakfast club, prepping crafts, and plenty of dancing and games!

Our classes and workshops are built through care, teamwork, and people who genuinely enjoy being there. From welcoming children in the morning to keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, our team are big part of what makes these days feel calm, organised, and full of energy.

“We love Jazz because...”

Sometimes the simplest answers say it best. From “it’s so fun and loud” to “we all get to choose different songs” - this is what our Monday Jazz classes feel like from the inside as told by our younger jazz class.

At OKD, jazz isn’t just about big energy (although there’s plenty of that).
It’s about learning how to move with control, building confidence, and giving children space to enjoy the process.
