It doesn’t include group coaching or any lessons before January 2025, but it’s a lovely milestone to pause and appreciate!

Every player brings a different game, personality and way of learning. Those lessons haven’t just helped the golfers I work with develop; they’ve developed me enormously as a coach too.

A meaningful moment for LGBT Golf. 🌈⛳️

My Gay Games experience, and the wider purpose behind LGBT Golf, has been featured by The PGA, the original and world’s oldest PGA.

The silver medal opens the story. What means most to me is seeing the work behind LGBT Golf recognised on this platform.

LGBT Golf is creating a more welcoming route into the game through professional coaching, on-course experiences and genuine connection.

It isn’t about creating a different or diluted version of golf. It is about helping more LGBT+ people enter, return to and grow within the game, while keeping improvement, ambition and the game itself at the heart of the experience.

Through The Monthly in London, complete beginners, returning golfers and regular players can learn, improve and connect in a professionally led environment where their lived experience is understood.

I’m grateful to The PGA for giving this work such thoughtful coverage, and to Matt for capturing both the Valencia experience and the wider purpose behind LGBT Golf with such care.

Silver at the Gay Games Federation of Gay Games, the world’s largest LGBTQ+ sports event 🥈

Proud to say I finished 2nd in the All-Genders Division A Gross category at Gay Games XII in Valencia - the top gross scoring division of the week

I got to represent Ireland, compete again, and come away with a silver medal. It brought back a competitive feeling I didn’t realise I’d missed ⛳️

Golf has given me so many opportunities throughout my life. I’ve had periods away from it, rebuilt my relationship with the game, turned professional with a much deeper purpose as a The PGA Professional, and found a new mission through building inclusive spaces like LGBT Golf | Inclusive Community + Coaching.

The course, El Saler, was incredible and gave us a proper test over 36 holes in the Valencian heat!

Huge congratulations to Tom E. Smith, PGA, on a brilliant win - a fantastic player, a genuine ally to the LGBTQ+ golf community, and a pleasure to compete with throughout the week. We’ll be over for a visit! 🇺🇸🏌🏻

Another superb piece from the Stack & Tilt Network training day with Andy Plummer this month - detailing arm structure.

Andy breaks down the right arm, forearm and wrist relationship, and how the arm works across the chest to help transport the clubface around the arc.

→ A draw does not have to come from constantly rolling the hands or manipulating the clubface. When the structure is organised well, the ball flight can be built into the motion.

That is the level of detail behind what can look like a very simple change in a lesson - the underlying knowledge feeds the confidence to deliver that change clearly.

The fix wasn’t “try to swing more from the inside”

We first created space by moving his right side back in the backswing, which allowed the hands and arms to work deeper rather than getting stuck too far out in front

Once the space was there, the path changed quickly - and the ball flight moved from slice to much straighter, with some draws starting to appear

Monday at the Stack & Tilt Network training day with Andy Plummer.

Days like this are a reminder of just how deep this game really is - and how much detail sits underneath simple, effective coaching.

A standout piece from the day was Andy’s breakdown of where speed is really created in the swing: the angular velocity of the trail shoulder, and the abduction/adduction of the lead arm — rather than simply trying to rotate the spine and chest harder.

Serious detail. Serious clarity.

A special mention too to Billy irvine and Rob Cheney | Golf Instructor & Coach, who first introduced me properly to Stack & Tilt a couple of years ago. That opened up a whole new level of understanding for me as a coach, and I’m very grateful for that.

It was also brilliant to see my old Head Pro and old co-worker Ryan Gribben, who had both flown over from in Ireland - where I first began my The PGA training. A lovely full-circle moment!

The final image probably says it all: Andy’s drawings from the day. Incredible detail, knowledge and structure behind what, at its best, should look simple to the player.

Always learning. Always sharpening the craft.
