A transformation with a little more meaning behind it. πŸπŸ’›

This Harrow Newbery U*i was kindly donated by Shehzad Hussain Shehzad Hussain to be refurbished by Thorne Cricket 🏏 and passed on to a junior at Chingford Cricket Club, giving both the bat and its next owner an opportunity for plenty more cricket.

The bat arrived showing the signs of considerable previous use, so it received our Silver Refurbishment Package, including all appropriate repairs required to restore the blade.

All of the original stickers and protective coverings were removed, before the bat was carefully sanded to a very fine finish and polished, completely transforming the appearance of the willow.

Rather than simply replacing the original branding, we gave this one a completely new identity with our Thorne Cricket Hufflepuff stickers. πŸ’›πŸ–€

A fibre sheet was applied to the face to provide protection for its next chapter, before the transformation was completed with a matching yellow ring chevron grip.

From a well-used Newbery to a completely refreshed Thorne Cricket Hufflepuffβ€”and, most importantly, a bat that will now be given to a junior at Chingford Cricket Club to enjoy. πŸ’›πŸ

A massive thank you to Shehzad Hussain Shehzad Hussain for donating the bat and helping us give it a new lease of life rather than letting a perfectly usable piece of cricket equipment go to waste.

Quite the transformation for this CA Plus 15000 Players Edition 7 Star, which came into Thorne Cricket 🏏 with a shoulder crack, loose handle and a requirement for significant weight reduction.

The original bat weighed 2lb 12oz, but the player wanted a lighter bat with improved pickup and balance.

The work included:

🏏 Complete re-handle, replacing the loose/damaged handle
🏏 Shoulder and associated repairs
🏏 Removal of all stickers and protective coverings
🏏 Profile transformation from spine-to-toe to a more pronounced duckbill
🏏 Further weight carefully removed from the back, reducing the concavity while maintaining the integrity of the blade
🏏 Toe corners rounded and refined to contribute further to the weight reduction
🏏 Final weight reduced from 2lb 12oz to 2lb 9oz β€” a 3oz reduction
🏏 Full refurbishment, with the entire bat sanded to a very fine finish and polished
🏏 Liquid rubber solution applied to the toe
🏏 Fibre sheet applied to the face
🏏 Finished with a new white chevron grip

The end result is almost unrecognisable from the bat that arrived: new handle, repaired, completely stripped back and refurbished, reshaped and 3oz lighter, with a considerably different profile designed to provide improved pickup and balance.

A great example of how a bat can be repaired, restored and specifically modified around the player’s requirements, rather than simply replaced. 🏏

POV: When you apparently forget which hand you broke… πŸ˜‚πŸ

Brilliant POV footage captured by Shehzad Hussain on his Ray-Ban Meta glasses during Chingford’s Bank Holiday Monday friendly against Walthamstow.

The ball goes up, I see the opportunity, and instinct takes over… 🫣

A one-handed, full-stretch diving effort to my right, using the same right hand where I fractured my 4th metacarpal back on Saturday 11th July 2026.

Unfortunately, the result was exactly the same as my first game back on Saturday 15th August 2026 β€” a spectacular attempt, followed by the ball hitting the ground! πŸ˜‚

After the Saturday 15th August 2026, three games on Club Day on Sunday, and now this one… you’d think I’d have learnt by now. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

0 catches. 2 spectacular attempts. One recovering hand. πŸ˜‚

I’ll take the effort… the catching can come later! πŸ’ͺ🏏

This CA Pro Limited Edition came into Thorne Cricket 🏏 for a bespoke handle modification, tailored specifically to improve the shape, thickness, and feel in the player’s hands.

The process began with the complete removal of the existing handle binding, allowing the handle to be accessed and carefully re-shaped.

Material was then carefully removed from the handle to reduce its overall thickness and create a more semi-oval profile, with particular attention given to the upper section of the handle to achieve the desired feel and control.

Once the desired shape had been achieved, the handle was re-bound from top to bottom, restoring a secure and professional finish.

The modification was completed with a new white ring chevron grip, providing a fresh feel and excellent comfort and control.

A fully bespoke handle modification, transforming the original setup to better suit the player’s preferred shape and feel. 🏏

This CP bat came into Thorne Cricket 🏏 with a major split running from the toe all the way up the back towards the handle, requiring an extensive structural repair.

All stickers, protective coverings and the existing toe guard were removed, while the lower handle binding was temporarily unbound to access the damage. The split was carefully opened at various points, glue injected throughout, then sealed, bound and clamped from the toe through to the shoulders to allow the repair to fully cure.

The handle binding was re-bound and reinforced with white insulation tape, before the clamps were removed once the adhesive had fully cured.

The toe was then sanded and treated with a liquid rubber toe guard, which was shaped once cured. The entire bat was sanded to a very fine finish and polished.

For additional structural support, clear binding was applied to the top and bottom of the blade with epoxy coating, followed by a clear and fibre sheet to the face and fibre tape over the binding.

The bat was finished with a new white ring chevron grip.

A serious structural restoration, bringing a heavily split CP back into strong, protected, playable condition. 🏏
