Squats are more than building show off quads.

They’re one of the most important movements we do every single day.

Getting on and off the sofa.
Using the toilet.
Picking something up from the floor.
Getting in and out of the car.
Playing with your children or grandchildren.

The ability to squat well is closely linked to strength, balance, mobility and independence as we get older.

When Mike first started training, movement was uncomfortable and confidence was low. Now he’s moving well, feeling stronger and building the strength he needs to keep doing the things he enjoys outside of the gym.

You don’t need to be squatting massive weights.

You just need enough strength and mobility to make everyday life easier.

That’s what training should be about.

Building a stronger, more capable body that supports you for the long term.

If you’re over 35 and want to feel stronger, move better and future proof your body, drop me a message or book a complimentary consultation through the link in my bio.

Fitness isn’t all about lifting bigger, heavier weights. Sometimes we need to focus on balance and coordination.

For most people 35+, the stuff that really changes how your body feels is the basics.

Moving better.
Feeling more stable.
Improving balance and coordination.
Building strength through the core so your body actually feels supported.

This sort of work might not look flashy on Instagram, but it’s the reason people start moving pain free again, feel more confident and stop constantly picking up little niggles.

The goal has never been to destroy people in sessions.
It’s to help people build a body that feels stronger, more capable and easier to live in long term.

Every session has a purpose and training towards your goal has many different routes to get there. Main thing we’re looking for in sustainable progress.

Mike came to me stuck in the cycle I see loads of people fall into

Train hard.
Make progress.
Something starts hurting.
Back off for weeks.
Lose momentum.
Start again Monday.

Shoulder pain.
Leg pain.
Constant niggles.
Always feeling like something was about to flare up again.

The frustrating part was he wanted to train and make progress, but his body just wasn’t tolerating what he was doing.

Fast forward to now and he’s:
✔ Training pain free
✔ Moving properly
✔ Stronger
✔ More confident
✔ Playing sport again
✔ No longer constantly restarting every few months

And this wasn’t done through crazy workouts or smashing himself into the ground.

We stripped things back, improved movement, built strength where he needed it and focused on consistency over perfection.

Because for most people 35+ the goal isn’t to become a full time athlete.

It’s to:
Feel good in your body
Move without pain
Have energy
Build strength for later life
Train consistently without constantly picking up injuries

That’s the stuff that actually changes your life long term.

Honestly, seeing someone go from worrying about movements hurting… to moving confidently again is one of the best parts of my job.

If you’re fed up with constantly having to “start again”, use the link in my bio to book a call or free consultation session to see how you can be on the road to moving pain free, build strength and get confident.

When Alex came to me, the goal was pretty simple.

Get his body ready to row the Atlantic.

But also one of the biggest things we spoke about was avoiding injuries and making sure training didn’t completely take over his life.

Because the reality is, most people 35+ don’t have endless time to train, recover and live in the gym. You’ve got work, family, stress, responsibilities and life still has to happen alongside your goals.

That’s why we’re training smarter, not just heavier.

This is a 1 and 1/4 rep goblet squat. We’re not using massive weight here, but by changing the rep style and increasing the time under tension, the exercise becomes much harder while still staying joint friendly and controlled.

You don’t always need to pile weight onto the bar to progress.

Sometimes better movement, better control and better exercise selection is what keeps you progressing consistently whilst keeping your body feeling good.

Whether your goal is rowing the Atlantic, getting stronger, losing weight or simply feeling healthier and moving better, training should improve your life. Not completely consume it.

SMALL GROUP PT

Training is easier when you’re not doing it alone.

A lot of people want coaching
They just don’t want to walk into a gym by themselves.

That’s why I offer small group PT.

Train with a partner.
Bring a friend.
Train alongside people with similar goals.

You still get proper coaching, structure and support — just in a more relaxed environment.

Some people push harder with a friend beside them.
Some people feel more confident walking in together.
Some people simply enjoy training more when there’s good energy around them.

And when you enjoy it
You’re far more likely to stay consistent.

Just good training, good people and long term progress.

If you’ve been thinking about starting but don’t want to do it alone, message me and bring someone with you

Back in 2015 I was following a plan that wrecked me.

More sessions.
More volume.
More suffering.
Less food.
Less rest.

I followed one of those generic online plans that promised insane transformations if you just worked hard enough.

So I did.

I trained 10 times a week.
Ignored recovery.
Ignored fatigue.
Ignored stress.
Ignored my lifestyle.

And eventually my body hit the brakes for me.

I crashed.

Not just physically either.

I lost motivation.
Energy.
Confidence.
Consistency.

For 6 months I barely trained properly because I’d pushed myself so far into the ground.

Now as a coach, this is one of the biggest mistakes I see people making.

People think fitness has to mean:

Exhaustion
Punishment
Cutting everything enjoyable out of life
Training harder every week
Living on ridiculously low calories

But good training should do the opposite.

It should GIVE you energy.
Improve your life.
Make you stronger.
Help your stress.
Fit around your lifestyle.

Not destroy it.

The best plan isn’t the hardest plan.
It’s the one you can recover from consistently while still enjoying your life.

That’s why all of my coaching is built around sustainability, recovery and realistic progress.

No “all or nothing”.
No punishment.
No starting again every Monday.

Just smart training, good habits and consistency over time 👊

If this sounds like you, drop me a message or use the link in my bio and let’s build something that actually works long term.

A few years ago, a weekend like this would’ve completely thrown me off.

Cake tasting for my wedding.
Meals out with friends.
Missed a gym session.
Definitely not eating “perfectly”

Old me would’ve stepped on the scales, panicked, said “I’ve ruined it now” and used it as an excuse to binge eat all weekend before promising to “start again Monday”.

That cycle is EXACTLY what I did for years and saw very little progress.

Now

I understand something I try to teach all my clients

You still have to live your life.

You can enjoy meals out.
You can miss a session.
You can eat cake at your wedding tasting 😂

And you can STILL make progress.

The scales are still moving in the direction I want.
I’m still seeing changes in the mirror.
Because progress isn’t built from being perfect for 3 days… it’s built from being consistent for months and years.

Most people don’t fail because of one bad meal or one missed session.
They fail because they let one slip up turn into a full week of “f**k it”.

Balance and consistency will always beat perfection.

So if you’ve had an off weekend, don’t throw everything away.
Just get back to your routine at the next meal, next day or next session

Technique matters much more than you probably think

Most people in the gym chase heavier weights, Pb’s, more exercises and harder sessions. But if your technique isn’t there yet, you’re not going to see the progress you want and might risk an injury

Especially if you’re:

New to the gym
Coming back after time off
Returning from an injury
Carrying old aches and pains

Good technique isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about putting your body in the best position to:
✔️ Build strength safely
✔️ Move with confidence
✔️ Reduce unnecessary strain
✔️ Actually feel the muscles you’re trying to train
✔️ Keep training consistently long term

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people rushing the basics because they feel they “should” be lifting heavier.

But the most important thing you can do is learn how to move properly first.

Your training doesn’t need to destroy you to work.
It needs to challenge you in a way your body can recover from and repeat consistently.

Nail the basics.
Get strong gradually.
Stay injury free.
Keep showing up.

That’s what gets results that actually last. Don’t be worried about stepping into the gym for the first time or post injury. Book a free session with me (link in bio) to help you on your road to success

05/05/2026

Most people think they need to live in the gym to get results.

You don’t.

For me right now, that looks like cycling 👇

It’s enjoyable
And that matters more than anything.
Because if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t stick to it.

It gets me moving more (without forcing it)
Fresh air, exploring, clearing my head.
It doesn’t feel like “I have to train” — it just becomes part of my day.

It helps with fat loss
Not because cycling is special
But because I’m doing it consistently.

It’s low impact
So even when I’m not 100%, I can still move without making things worse.

But here’s the key point:

This isn’t about cycling.

It’s about finding something YOU enjoy enough to stick to.

That might be:
• Walking
• The gym
• Classes
• Swimming
• Cycling
• Anything

The best plan isn’t the most intense one…
It’s the one you can actually do week in, week out.

That’s what gets results.

Getting older isn’t the problem.
Peter came to me thinking he had to accept pain as normal.
He doesn’t.
Now he’s back:✔️ Playing sport✔️ Staying active✔️ Moving without pain✔️ Actually enjoying life again
And no this didn’t come from living in the gym and eating a bland diet
It came from:– A plan that actually fit his life– Training that met him where he was at– Staying consistent (not perfect)
This is the difference.

If you’re 35+ and starting to feel like those aches and pains are creeping in, it doesn’t have to be that way.
Drop me a message or hit the link in my bio and we’ll map out a plan that works for you.
