People love to tell me to get my eyes up in my videos. Theyâre sort of right. It all comes down to the level of ability the player has as well as the context in a game.
1. People who can touch type, had to start by looking at the keyboard to learn where the keys were, then gradually moved their eyes from the keyboard to the screen.
Thatâs the same with lower ability players learning new skills for the first time.
2. If youâre having to use v drags, double drags, amongst other skills then it must mean the opposition player is close to you, therefore your eyes need to look down at the defenders feet and or stick.
Next time you watch a video watch how much the ball carriers eyes go from looking at the ball to looking at the situation.
Keeping eyes up the whole time is not realistic and something we want to coach our players.
