I write this post with a very heavy heart as we had to put our cat Archer to sleep last month. He got ill very quickly and though we thought he could pull through, in the end, we had to let him go.
He was my cat. He slept on me. He always purred when I gave him kisses. He’d even purr when I walked in the room. We got him as a rescue and had him for twelve years. A few years ago, he mysteriously cut his leg and had to have it amputated. As a retired ninja, he’d spend his days asleep on our bed, he’d get up for food and pop out to do the rounds of the block before coming back to snooze. He was partial to catnip, licking plastic and loved nothing more than being curled up in a duvet igloo.
We were his people and that was enough for him. To others he was quite aloof, but to us he was a purr mobile. He had a laid-back love. Occasionally he’d come find you to look for affection, but he was just happy when we were there to give him attention. He is the only being that I’ve kissed a thousand more times than my husband. He’d purr even when trying to get away from my kisses. I loved to hoof him too, he smelt great.
He got his name from Archer the cartoon series, because he was so handsome and he’d totally rock a black polo neck. He knew he was loved and he trusted us.
I always told him ‘I am yours and you are mine’, because it was true.
Thank you Archer for all the love and joy you gave me.
You will be missed x
