Dharma Dojo London

Dharma Dojo London Bujinkan classes in London
Monday & Thursday
7pm to 9pm
Free of charge (donations will go to charity) They are definitely worth the trip!

At Bujinkan Dharma Dojo London, we train Bujinkan Ninpo Taijutsu. Our devotion is to dedicate ourselves to the budō path in order to open our hearts to evolve as human beings, avoiding violence and conflict and empower our inner harmony with nature and our spirit through natural Taijutsu. We currently teach free of charge, and donations are given to charity. We are privileged to run our classes in

two very beautiful locations, as follows:

On Mondays, we train at the mesmerising Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon from 19:00 to 21:00 (SW19 5HJ). On Thursdays, we train at the entrancing Linh Son Bodidharma Temple in West Norwood, also from 19:00 to 21:00 (SE19 3EW). Please join us for training, to have a look, or even just to see the locations. Everyone is warmly welcome. For more information, please contact us at 07778 688982 or visit our website at www.DharmaDojo.co.uk

The name Dharma Dojo originates from one of the main core principles in ancient Oriental philosophies, which is the concept of "Dharma" (a profound concept of natural and moral principles that apply to all beings and things, mostly based on your 'heart feeling'). This concept is connected to the founder of Oriental Martial Arts, Bodhidharma, who traveled from India to China to pass on his Chen/Zen Buddhist teachings, which developed into body movement and martial arts. Bodhidharma represents the source point of the martial journey and is often depicted in paintings by Hatsumi Sensei and Takamatsu sensei, as you can see in our Profile Picture. Our temple, where we train on Thursdays, is Bodhidharma's Temple, exactly. All activities in this temple are centered around his teachings. On Mondays, we train at Buddhapadipa Temple which focuses on the basic teachings that Bodhidharma's lineage evolved upon. Both temples represent the initiation of the spiritual path. Our practice originated from the original 'kihon' practiced at Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon, and has since evolved to Chen/Zen Buddhism, later taught by Bodhidharma and practiced at Linh Son Temple in West Norwood. The Bujinkan concept of Ten Chi Jin represents the origin of Ten (spiritual practices) that merge with Chi (martial practices) which generates Jin (medicine practices). Takamatsu Sensei and Hatsumi Sensei, besides being formidable martial artists, were (and are) phenomenal experts in medicine, as well as in spiritual disciplines. Dharma represents for us the focus point of the origin of our Budo path, to keep our journey still in the core integrity of our duties, hence the name: "Dharma Dojo".

Thinking about martial arts? Training is free on Mondays.

At Dharma Dojo in Wimbledon Village, we practice traditional Japanese Ninjutsu in a calm, welcoming environment - without ego, tension, or competition.

Our training follows the principle of Ten-Chi-Jin: the spiritual, the martial, and the healing arts. It is a path for those seeking more, to become at peace, safe, and skilful under the pressures of modern life.

In line with our tradition, this training is offered as a gift to the community rather than for profit. Every voluntary donation goes directly to charity, and your practice becomes a force for the greater good.

Astronomers note that the aurora dances in unpredictable arcs, responding to invisible magnetic forces above the Earth. This reveals how unseen forces of nature govern motion in ways both powerful and unseen. In Budō, the unseen governs everything.

We have founded our free martial arts class to support the community.

Not to build something commercial. Because we believe this kind of training — real traditional Bujinkan, the way it was originally meant — should be available to anyone.

We have a small, genuinely good group of people. Grounded, curious, and welcoming.

If you've ever been drawn to martial arts with more depth to it - Monday evenings might be worth trying.

No experience needed. Just turn up.

Most martial arts focus on one thing: how to fight.

The original Bujinkan tradition is built on three.

Ten — heaven. The development of the spirit.
Chi — earth. Practical survival in real situations.
Jin — human. The study of healing.

The idea is that a complete martial artist doesn't just know how to protect themselves — they know how to look after others, and they've done the work on who they are, and beyond.

"There are three types of martial artists: those who want to learn to fight, those who want to learn techniques, and those who want to develop a pure heart."

— Masaaki Hatsumi, founder of Bujinkan

The third kind is what we train for.

Not a gym. Not a competition. Not about competition, ranks, or proving anything.

No fitness threshold. No aggression. No tension.

The original Bujinkan tradition was about three things: developing the spirit, learning real self-defence, and understanding how to care for others' well-being.

Hatsumi Sensei, the founder of the Bujinkan used to teach for free.

Not as a business model. As a principle. Training given from the heart.

We believe in that. Our classes have always been free, and always will be. Donations are welcome and go to charity.
